If this all he could get, letting Howard walk would have been the best option. We just made 3 teams stronger, pending injuries, and our team the worst team in the NBA. It takes a special degree of stupidity to do that.

Yup, it's 4.25 million. So we have $22.05 mil in TPE

all of our bad contracts? we got rid of duhon which would of cost $1.5mil next year, and we got rid of jrich's $6mil a year, we added $7-8mil a year on affalo, and $7-8mil on harrington unless hes waived, but it still counts $3.5mil towards the cap

we really didnt get rid of these bad contracts

I agree harrington isn't a good pick up in this deal overall unless Hennigan somehow flips him. But I would much rather have Affalo at $7.7 mil than Richardson at $6 mil.

Also I want to add that there is an even greater chance that Harkless is nothing more than a Demar Derozan type and the Magic don't tank hard enough to get a top 3 pick next season. In which case they are royally f*cked.

You are, well I am reading it the same way. Flexibility, stockpile of picks, and now the massive TPE.

We will be massive players in the draft next season as well as in the future.

I thought it was more, like around 7 million? I don't know.

Which team would trade decent picks for some cap relief, possibly a year or two of cap relief? That's what we'll be after with our TPE. Take back a guy and picks and eat a bad contract.

I am sorry. I cannot see a single reason how this trade helps the Magic in any way or form better than letting Dwight walk next year.

We have JJ, so why get Afflalo.
Hakless and the Vujecic are mid round rookies that anyone can trade for. They may not even last in the NBA.
Nuggets would have traded Harrington for Duhon & JRich straight up and the salaries would have matched.

Flip side:

Magic could have ran one more season with Dwight one last fight for a fight for the title and the Devos would have made one last season of full profits.
Then, Dwight could leave and the Magic have $30 mil in cap room to do whatever they wanted while not losing ANY fans.

Now, the Magic pissed off their entire fan base, lost any chance of ever renewing season ticket holders and lost a Boatload of money now and in the future because not many will be supporting this disfunctional organization.

No, letting Dwight walk would not have been better. Our goal is to be the worst team in the NBA.

Well since in my opinion Hennigan is a very good evaluator of talent and he wanted him in the draft and called him lottery talent, I dare say we rate the chances of him being a player in the league. I know a lot were high on him draft time. Watching him he has great potential and talent, let's see if we can get the best out of him. The fact he is a good kid as they said and hard working should make it easier.

Our team won't win more than 25 games. The problem is this year's draft is weak as hell.

It was reported as 4.25 or 4.3, can't remember.

Because getting Harkless, Vucevic and draft picks is better for the franchise than Dwight walking for nothing, no matter how you try to spin it.

well you never know what situations teams will be in in the future.....you also might have to factor in what the CBA introduces in year 2 if anything and how it will effect teams.....

The TPE will most likely go unused.

They could do like the Cavs who used their TPE to take on Baron Davis' contract from the Clips along with what ended up being the #1 pick in the draft. But they had the luxury of using the amnesty on him. Magic won't have that luxury.

Having said that, there's at least one team that deals away a top 10 pick every year. Maybe the Magic can take back a bad deal for another lottery pick to build the team.

Dwight is the one who **** us, not Rob. How can you guys not understand this? We had no leverage, and the teams Dwight had on his list had no assets. What did you think would happen?

Dwight didn't screw us over. He was contractually obliged to play another season here and he would have. his intent not to stick around that doesn't screw us, because that's his prerogative. the reasons why he didn't want to stick around is what screwed us. blame Otis. blame Fegan. i don't think Hennigan or Howard screwed us on this. we screwed ourselves.

Howard gave this team its best success in over a decade and people are just throwing that away because our management was shortsighted and inept. people should be angry at the right people - the people who were in charge. they're put in place for a reason, and they failed so tragically.

I'm ready for it, no use complaining anymore as it's not going to change what's happened today. Time to rebuild this team properly...
