edit: ok, this is a must read. Not only for the Wancheros nick that is so slick, but also for this take:

Keyonte and the Wancheros playing at an Amway near you.

I really want to like Keyonte.
Just watch that perfect shooting form on loop.

why is his % so bad if his shooting form is perfect? as much as i watch and read, i just cant seem to like him as a prospect

To be fair to Keyonte (and I don't like him much as a prospect) or any freshman, I think amateur scouting (to be fair, even professional scouts get this wrong) philosophically gets shooting wrong where they think 15-30 games of data is somehow indicative of anything at the NBA level. If we see elite level shooters in the NCAA flame out in the NBA because of other issues, the opposite can happen where a guy with good form who just didn't shoot well in their 1 year in college for whatever reason start to hit those shots in the NBA. That's the hardest thing to gauge as a scout.

If the entire scope of it looks bad - not able to get space, can't navigate screens, bad form, low attempts, chucker, etc, then obviously that makes sense to question it and stay away, but if it doesn't, teams suddenly want to take a chance on this player if everything else they're sold on.

In this draft alone, Bufkin and Hawkins are great examples as Sophs where their play from freshman year to sophomore year has changed their trajectories as shooters/scorers.

Hawkins has a BEAUTIFUL shot, like one of the best I've seen in a while, and went from 35/33/82 to 41/39/88 and Bufkin from 38/22/77 to 48/35/85.

One could argue that's a reason why people with iffy percentages shouldn't come out as freshmen in the first place, but I think that bump can happen in the NBA as well. Not because it's easier, it's obviously not, but the spacing and talent you play with is completely different, as is a change of role and the situation.. but it has to align.

Anyone know the story on the Thompson twins and why they are even in this draft class and not last years?

Seems like they are at least a year older than every other freshman or G-leaguer.

Lol if you got a promise you would think to celebrate in Disney.

But yeah... we dont ever get to see pics of draftees ij our gym. Unlike other teams where theybare available for media.

For us its usually a vague social media post about them being in Orlando or a selfie in a hotel room claiming they are in Orlando.

#6 to utah for #9 + #16 from Utah

Coulibaly + Lively + Bufkin for me would be a great haul. Bufkin and lively provide a high floor with great potential and Bilal can help blow the roof off of the draft haul. lol

I am perfectly okay with adding that many 1st rounders.... i know we're young and improving already.... but the players are very mature and i think the team identity is already being forged!

Great point and something I've not thought much about. The sample size issue with shooting efficiency in college is tough. I suspect you are spot on and that as a scout you lean heavily on shooting form and shot difficultly.

Not bad. But I think we already have many young guys. Adding three more rookies doesn’t make sense. Maybe #6 for #9 and 1 future FRP will be better. We can pick Coulibaly at #9 and Hendricks at #11. Then sign a 3pt shooter and qualified rebounder in FA such as GTJ and Plumlee.

I'm coming around to the reality that there is a real chance we take either Hendricks or Walker at No. 6 or Lively at No. 11. The run it back scenario almost demands this.

What kind of a combo guard is Keyonte George? Is he a Darius Garland kinda guard? Or a Bouknight or Tre Mann kinda guard? If he has some serious shooting like Garland then he should be the pick. We need the fire power!

Actually... this might be unpopular here because .on the George train BUT.. does anyone see Jordan Poole on him?

I like Keyonte a lot but yes I do see any inefficient chucker in him. I like him for his excellent C&S numbers and the long term positives of his shooting. I would only draft him if you feel like you can get him to play a role at first and have him not taking the chucker shots.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

I thought my twins draft was hyperbolic and a critical yet comical evaluation of the potential for our front office to mess things up....

Agree. If we keep both picks, I can't see us taking players who share the same position. Almost a sure bet we go 1 front court player + 1 wing/guard.

Quick comment. I do like Walkers wingspan and dislike everything about that PF.

He almost certainly would be a bench rental for 4 years unless he is a bust and we keep him as a result.

A bust here would be "bust for 6th pick."

I would still hold out for "starter level talent" not "fridge starter" as the potential floor.
