I liked Gil, but I hope this wasnt about having a friend on the court, maybe he had something left in the tank but like Otis said, even if he was putting up 20ppg you'd still have to consider using the amnesty based on flexibility and luxury tax considerations

really quiet day from the magic, especially after last night's fiasco w/ dwight

glad they are "holding on to him"... still gives us a chance to make a move to make him happy... i can't give up hope on that idea

I really think our team could be competitive with an upgrade at small forward or point guard. If we could get Monta and an athletic 3, we'd be talking title contention again. Or even just adding Iggy or Josh Smith would propel our team above the Bulls.

Monta
J-Rich
Hedo (I hope otherwise)
Baby
Howard

or

Jameer
J-Rich
Iggy
Baby
Howard

The more I think about it, the better the J-Rich signing looks. $24/4 years is a great deal imo, and considering JJ is getting paid more and we have 7-8 guards, I think JJ will be moved.

I think Otis is going to hold onto Dwight and try to get a piece in place to inspire him to stay ala Kobe and the Lakers in 07'. Luckily for us, Dwight doesn't need a Gasol to stay here, he's indicated Monta, SJax, Glen Davis, and Morrow are on his list. That's not exactly Gasol-level talent.

i like that second lineup because jrich and iggy can both guard the sg or sf spot.

Too bad for us, few (if any) teams want our guys/contracts it seems... We ain't the Lakers, we ain't getting a good player gifted to us on a silver plate, with ribbons and everything, for scrubs.

We have enough to get these 2nd tier guys, that's my point, Dwight's not asking for all-star talent.

Outside of Turk and Duhon (which are both lousy deals), no one else on our team is on a bad contract that I can think of. Jameer, JJ, Ryan, J-Rich, Davis are all on reasonable contracts and all should be moveable if we decide to go that route. (I know some can't be traded yet since they just signed, but my overall point remains the same.) So, I'd like to think that we can put together an attractive deal to upgrade small forward or point guard or both. Do that, and we're in good shape.

Yeah, true. I just hope something good happens to this franchise for once, not always total collapses after a few good years. This team and city needs something good happening to them. I just hope it happens now.

I'd argue that JRich, Anderson, and Jameer are on very good deals. And Redick is a (potential) expirer.

actually, the answer is yes. They pay him the sixty but save paying the league another ten to twenty million in luxury tax.

agreed.

but do we blow our load this year on a guy that i get the feeling most GMs are suspect on as far as how much he can help a team win (Monta), or do we stay the course, clear a little cap room and go for a big fish next season? will Dwight be content with that?

my guess is that's what his big hang up is. he's looking at the Lakers making moves to add Paul, the Mavs adding Odom, the Nets signing Nene etc, and we haven't done anything to address his requests.

We need to Talk to Minnesota, David Khan is a crazy man, he may be crazy enough to give us Beasly for a decent deal or he could play small forward for us and can create his own shot

As I read the CBA, we may be able to trade Glen Davis immediately, if need be.

For sign-and-trade transactions, the initial trade which completes the transaction is obviously allowed, even though it occurs right after the player is signed. What's not clear is whether the player's new team can subsequently trade him prior to three months or December 15. While a literal reading of the CBA might suggest that such players cannot be subsequently traded, the league actually considers this situation to be undefined, and won't resolve the matter until a team actually tries to make such a trade.

Not sure about J-Rich

If a deal is reachable to trade for Monta, Otis needs to get it done. ASAP.
