Can we get serious for a moment about second round picks.

How many rookies played at least 40 games on teams with at least .400 win record and at least more than 10 min.
Are you ready?

2024-25: Wells, Jaylen Clark
2023-24: Vaso Micić ( 30 years old) , Sasha Vazenkov ( 28 years old) , Trayce Jackson-Davis and Andre Jackson Jr
2022-23. Nembhard, Jaylin Williams, Kolokolo and Christie
2021-22 - Ayo, Herb, Kessler Edwards, Boston, Sims
2020-21: Xavier Tillman
20219-20: - nobody
2018-19: Diallo, Bruce Brown, Svi Mykhailiuk and Rodions Kurucs

That's 19 men, among 210 selected, that's 8%. Most of them HARDLY even fitted 40 games /10 min criteria on even marginally okey team.
Two of them are over age of 28 and only "rookies" on paper.

Vast majority of successful second round picks are created on sh**y teams. Like in one year when Knicks had epic 17-65 record, they pulled out Mitchell Robinson because they had enough time to trail so many udrafted, unsigned FAs. Over span of two years they trailed: Mitchell, isaiah Hich, Noah Vonleh, Luke Kornett, Willy Hernangómez and Henry Ellenson . It's typical part of rebuild where you throw sh**t at wall in hope for Mona Lisa. (or at least Lisa Ann)

ill say 1 - you have to take a swing with players, you never know when you find a diamond in the rough.
2 - 2nd round picks, while sometimes successful (Jokic, Green, Brogdon, Dillon Brooks, Brunson) most likely dont pan out. While he was mocked in most drafts a late 1st round talent, chances are he wont become much more. We will hope that he can, but no one should expect that.

You should take swings, but there is no reason to pretend that second round picks are pivotal parts of nba rotations. 30% of them never even step foot on nba court.

i literally just said that

I would debate Goga and Black as G-league players. ISaac may be g-league on offense, but NBA on defense.

the others, i wont defend

I was thinking more as a unit. That's not good unit as nobody can score. Or handle. Most can't shoot.

Isaac, Goga, Black are nba players. Even Tristan is rotation nba player. Jett...ugh.

yes and we all know they need to make more moves

Magic have said they are open to trading Slim. $15 mil is hard to justify for 15mpg player.

Try $27 300 000 for 15 mpg they paid him this year.

Feels like they need one more player they can reasonably count on for 20-25 MPG in a playoff series at the 1, 2 or 3.

And which position they go with feels heavily dependent on how they feel about Black and his role this upcoming season.

Anthony Black is a very good young player and a key piece of our plans forward.

Jase and Pende are rookies.

Don’t really care much for the others.

Goga was a starter at times thus he isn't G-League and is solid. Tristan is better than G-League for sure and should improve along with AB. Look at every teams bench and you will see similar. It is not like teams can find starting level players for their bench on cheap contracts especially when you got 4 players making $30 mil plus.

Is there a possibility we entertain sign and trade options for Mo?

Sure. They could also pick up his team option for $11M and trade him.

2 tiny guards? You can’t play them together. Not sure this it. Brew again.

We lost our chance for Chinese fans and revenue with Yang Hansen. But maybe not Puerto Rican fans and revenue with Jose Alvarado, otherwise known as Grand Theft Alvarado.

Call the trade into the league office, Skybox.

Where are all the sleuths in here who can spot the clues and figure it out? All these draft picks, trades, and free agency promises recently are shaking up depth charts like crazy. OKC might trade Hartenstein now?!

Well..... Its unless they won't plan on him only doing 15 min again..... And there were reasons for it last year.... Like not being quite in shape due to the added weight that they all agreed to have put on. Hopefully his conditioning and confidence is renewed and he can have the best season of his life. The whole team has a downer year shooting.... But you really can't deny the effect JI has on the court. If something great comes along and he's needed to be added to make it happen ... Then as I've said... "Thank you for your service"...but I don't think they are actively trying to get him off the team.

I posted this in another thread, but there’s no dedicated free agency thread so here are the few realistic options with the $5.7M T-MLE (that seems like the likely route Orlando takes w/ free agency this year).

- Dante Exum
- De'Anthony Melton
- Kyle Lowry
- Monte Morris
- Cameron Payne
- Malcolm Brogdon

Maybe, depending on the market but I doubt it

- Tre Jones
- Tyus Jones
- Spencer Dinwiddie

Everyone else imo would command more (there’s rumor of Sacramento offering the NT-MLE to Shroder.

Out of this group, I kinda prefer Exum. He could be a sneaky good pickup. Followed up with Dinwiddie.
