Off the top of my head I know we lost to the Bulls, Heat, Hawks(twice), Pacers, Philly, OKC (twice), Celtics (twice). Granted we did beat Miami Pacers and Philly...we usually lose to those teams which we WILL play in the playoffs..the record is irrelevant if the majority of those wins are vs Bucks, wizards, or bobcats

I bet it wouldn't be irrelevant if we kept losing to those teams.......

This.

Don't get fooled into thinking that this team is a contender because we rack up a lot of wins. I know we have a losing record against teams over .500. That's what I see.

Any trade involving Dwight definitely makes us worse for the rest of 2011-2012.
A trade could possibly improve the team in 2012-2013 if you assume Dwight will "walk for nothing" but the improvement will be short lived.
If we let Dwight Walk, we have enough cap room in 2013 to sign two all-star caliber players plus we have a high draft pick from sucking next year.
If we try to rush into a trade now, we hang around .500 next year, get swept in the first round by the bull or heat and pick somewhere around 15 in the draft while preparing to be mediocre again.

Any Bulls package that doesn't involve Rose and Thibs isn't winning you anything. The Bulls lost to the Heat because no one outside of Rose could create any offense in crunch time. Why would we build around the secondary guys?

Any Knicks package is not worth it either. We don't get better by stealing the core of a .500 team.

Knowing the Thunder have no desire to trade with us, none of their guys outside of Westbrook and Durant are game changers.

Nets... Ha!

We are best to just sit tight. Long time fans aren't going anywhere if Dwight leaves.

Exactly. Not to mention it allows us to play out the chance at keeping him, a best case scenario. You don't give that up for a rebuild that will happen whether we trade him or he walks. I'm cool with a lottery pick and two max free agents, a worst case scenario.

We can do all of that plus Brooks and two other good picks to the mix.

This team is still soft. Lacks athleticism. Lacks a scorer that can take his man off the dribble. Lacks a player who we can give the ball to in the 4th quarter with confidence he can make something happen. When the playoffs start, beating the Heat or Thunder in the regular season does not matter at all.

I'm so confident that Dwight is going to walk after this season is over. At this point, I'm hoping we can trade him for something good so we can rebuild. I don't want to be stuck as an 8th seed for the next 4-5 years and not be able to rebuild and only watch the heartache of this team getting knocked out of the 1st round.

Because we lost to Atlanta last year...

That and because the guy you dont want to trade asked the front office to upgrade the talent. Dwight is not staying if Orlando stands pat. The trades people are clamoring for are to appease Howard. You would not hear as many trade demands if Dwight didnt ask for a change. It would still be absolutely necessary to improve the roster, but more people would share your delusional opinion that this roster is good enough to compete for a championship

Dwight the GM might be the one GM worse than Otis. Just saying.

So? we're trying to keep him are we not? if he says getting someone keeps him for at least another year, you have to make that trade...

^^Not saying he is or is not. I am saying that the current team is not making it to the Conference Finals. And Dwight has insinuated he would stay if roster changes were made. Thats two pretty big factors that attribute to me clamoring for changes.

Jameer is playing, J-Rich is decent as a 2 guard, Ryan is playing solid ball at 4, and Dwight is Dwight. IMO, if we get a nice upgrade at SF (Gerald Wallace at best, Stephen Jackson at worst) I think we can at least get out of the first round surely, and compete for a spot in the ECF. But won't get past the Heat. Getting to the ECF wouldn't be bad for us this year, and if FO was serious about keeping Dwight, getting to at least the ECF would be essential.

How can anyone NOT want a trade? Maybe if Dwight wasn't a FA after the year, but if you sit and do nothing you are pretty much putting all your eggs in the basket of Hedo, J-Rich, Jameer, etc. stepping up and going far in the playoffs. Even then, Dwight still may be tempted to leave.

When your star players asks out, but leaves the door open to stay if changes are made and you do absolutely nothing, you deserve to lose your star player because that is pure incompetence.

No you don't. Dwight is not the GM. I don't care if he wants all of his friends to play with him. Trying to make him happy is going to make this team worse in the long run when he leaves anyway.

"The Magic aren't contenders" is a point I'll refute because the evidence is there to say otherwise. Projecting the future is all about probability, and frankly the calculus involving Orlando's chances is still evolving. So any trade clamor built around the premise that the Magic can't contend as is I'll happily challenge.

"Dwight has insinuated he would stay if roster changes were made" is not a point I'll refute, and trades that aim towards making those changes a reality I'll gladly back. Keep Dwight at all costs imo. There are of course a ton of variables in play with this request by Dwight. For starters, what is his end goal? It is stated to be that he wants to win. So, if that is indeed the case than discussions of trades for Nash or Ellis need to be looked at competitively as well. Anderson for Ellis is a good trade because it satisfies a superficial list request made by Dwight and it is roughly equal value. Unfortunately the contracts don't match so we'd need to expand the deal. That is where the trade losses me if built around Anderson. I do not think that Nelson|Redick|Anderson for Ellis is fair value and I think it makes us markedly worse, which undermines another point in Dwight's request for changes, that we build a more competitive roster.
