Source: Orlando Magic likely to name GM by end of the week; new GM to make Dwight decision. http://wp.me/p1GPHW-Iu

A source close to the decision making process within the Orlando Magic organization has informed me that the team is close, and likely to name their new General Manager by the end of the week. Many names have surfaced as potential candidates with many of them set to be interviewed in the next few days. Jeff Bower, Spurs Assistant GM Dennis Lindsey, Thunder Assistant GM Rob Hennigan, Kevin Pritchard, Mitch Kupchak and Donnie Walsh have all been rumored to be potential candidates.

More importantly, my source has also said that the new GM will make the decision on Dwight. Meaning that if Dwight isn’t ready to commit long term, that the new GM will have the authority to either trade Howard or to move forward with one more year of the what-if’s. This initially seems to be contrary to the DeVos and Alex Martins previous iterations of decision-making authority, but it may be a strong piece in recruiting a powerful GM into the organization.

Obviously this is subject to change pending how the interviews go, but regardless the team should have a clearer path forward heading into the next week.

Looks like our new GM wont come from Thunder or Spurs. It will be Jeff Bower, Kevin Pritchard, Mitch Kupchak or Donnie Walsh.

Then again our bench was bailing us out all series, so it makes sense.

Maybe this is the stuff that Stan was considering when he'd defend Duhon?

So its simple, start BBD and play him as 6th with Duhon. This way Duhon's value would increase and we could move him for some cap relief.

You're probably right, but GMs can't interview during the playoffs?

Josh Robbins ‏@JoshuaBRobbins

The #Magic have waived Von Wafer. Not a surprise. The final 2 years of his contract were unguaranteed.

It's going to be Bower, and the world will crumble. :nonono:
He seems to be the only one of our reported names not occupied in a job and not occupied be a "better situation."

Common Sense made that call. He took over for Otis.

Yeah, that's exactly how I see it. That doesn't seem like a wise first move in the offseason. Say we part with one of JJ or J-Rich. Von on that $1 mill deal would have been nice as a back up 2 guard. If we're trying to clear cap space to make a bigger sign or trade, then maybe. But I don't see how that's imminent. It also wastes a trade chip.

Man... von wafer was on a reasonable salary and can kill it from anywhere on offense. The dude just needed a training camp. Von, you'll get your shot and you'll prove everyone else wrong.

Before Dwight went out the Magic were a .600 win team with Ryan as our 2nd option so...

Is this another case of clairvoyance?

The Magic have permission to speak with the GM candidates on the teams remaining in the playoffs, that will not exclude them from the job. Don't consider them out, they are prime candidates just as any other.

More news on Wafer, apparently, there was an under the table agreement in place when he arrived that he would be waived.

"Wafer was originally signed to a 3-year deal and acquired in a sign-and-trade with the Boston Celtics. The final two years of the deal were not guaranteed. It was my understanding that when he signed with the team, there was a mutual agreement that he would be waived after the season and have the chance to pursue a better deal via free agency. Wafer would have been set to make ~$1.2M next season."

Is this the Game of Thrones or something, where everyone must act on their word? They'll probably resign him for 4 mil a year next week. Idiots.

Those playoff stats are definitely interesting

Stan was a genius before his time..his Duhon love is now seemingly explained

I would agree. It must be someone they trust enough to make that decision. Crazy

Almost every character will be quick to cut another's throat or screw them over in some form of fashion. Seems if you try to honor deals on that show, you'll be one of the first characters to die. Wouldn't mind having someone w/ Tyrion's mindset running our franchise though

J-Rich needs to kick rocks.....Too inconsistent and virtually brings nothing to the table that Redick can't emulate

I think Dave Tztaviekaskiks is calling the shots for now. Maybe we had to waive him until a certain date to his contract does not become guaranteed.

BTW, we have Liggins at 2 and i think he will be our backup 2. (Jrich or JJ will be gone, IMO).

It is...I clearly see Ryan as a 4th option. I look at the end result. Good player to have behind 3 other ACTUAL scorers.
