i'm still stuck on the idea that the Magic didn't take a gameplan to Dwight. if that's true, what would be the difference between this meeting and the one Hennigan and Dwight had after the draft?

The Houston Rockets and word he'd resign in LA. Ryan Anderson. I don't think any thing changed on Orlando's end, that's why this is important.

Now, how do we get J-Smoove?

We can't and that's why he wants to leave.

we can't now, but we can clear space to at least be able to add him in the summer?

even doing that would be an effort, after signing Jameer to that contract. to do that, now, we'd need to move JRich and Turk/BBD.

No Christmas Day game for the Magic this year. Play the Nets on Nov. 9th, 11th, and 30th, . First game is at home vs. the Nuggets on Nov. 2nd. 3 games vs. NJ in November.

So our only option is the Lakers. We already have bad reputation around the league, trading him somewhere he doesn't want to be will only make it worse.

shouldn't the whole "let's build a strong relationship" spiel gone into the first meeting?

i'm going to throw an assumption out here. given the kind of face that Martins and Hennigan were putting on at Hennigan's signing (the, "we want guys who want to be here... it's up to Dwight..." hardball face), i think they had strong plans to trade him until they realised the going price on him wasn't anywhere near as good as they expected.

so now i think they're on the backfoot, and they've gone back to square one to try and mend fences, instead of showing Dwight what he's wanted all along (apart from a trade to Brooklyn) - some proof they'll make changes.

Why do we open the season like three days after the season begins?

Magic have 2 nationally televised games, both on ESPN, the entire season by my calculations. Weak. We play in Detroit on ESPN and our lone home game on ESPN/TNT/ABC is vs. Golden State.

Brooklyn has 11 nationally televised. Portland 7. Not counting NBATV.

I doubt HIGHLY that it's true Ben. The dude preaches being prepared, process and procedure and he came to the meeting. "Oh hey Dwight...What's the plan, what plan? I just came to say hey.." This is Dwights camp and it's painfully obvious.

Good, because my cable is saying "NBA TV is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

I hate Bright House.

Shaq on Dwight:

"I don't understand Jauque Vaughn."

"From Dwight's standpoint, I've been here asked for this and that, nothing has happened. Maybe it's time for a change. I remember when I was coming up, I was able to go upstairs and say, you know what, our PF is good, but not good enough, can you get Horace Grant. I know you want C-Webb, but for a championship, can you get Penny? He needs that relationship. I know management has changed. Hard to know what he's saying since he's never spoken about it. There is no loyalty in this game. My advice is be in charge. I love Orlando, I think he should stay here. I love this arena, I think Alex Martins will do the right thing and get things going in the right direction."

"You need a battle tested head coach. Shaw and Malone are battle tested. I don't know about JV. It all starts upstairs, owner, GM, coach, best player. I don't know what they're gonna do, but I love Orlando, and I hope he stays here."

Shaq saying the Magic need to do to Dwight what George Karl did to Javale McGhee. Battle tested coach required.

He's right. Jauque Vaughn signals that Dwight is as good as traded as soon as an acceptable deal comes up. If the Magic truly wanted to give 100% effort into keeping Dwight they would have hired Malone or Shaw (two coaches that Dwight wanted).

i'll take it with a grain of salt, like everything else, but i'm not going to dismiss it. Magic haven't done a thing in over a season and a half, so ineptitude of this nature wouldn't surprise me.

i think the Magic have their sights set on one thing and on thing only - Dwight Howard re-signing - and they can't look past that for the benefit of the team.

i think the worst thing that happened for the Magic was Dwight opting in, because it gave them a false sense of power. they think they're able to get Dwight to do what they want without making changes now, and that's exactly what they're trying to do still.
