With the Orlando Magic not making any significant moves this offseason, and the Bulls/Celtics/Heat upgrading their roster. what do they have to do to make it out of the east?

If Dwight evolves like it says in his commercial then we are going to the finals......see you there

The Bulls and Heat are unproven, the aging Celtics got even older by signing the oldest player in the league.

The Magic did well enough last year that they could try to do the same thing and it might work this time.

One key, however, is that Vincer Carter needs to to go the bench or another team. The Magic can not go through another year of the worst shooter on the team taking the most shots.

+1

the only dissapointment i feel is the fact that we haven't moved vc yet. although i don't know if we can get much due to his "FANTASTIC" playoff performance.

The last years, one of the Magic starters missed a number of games, for various reasons. If the suspensions and injuries stay away, and all Magician starters play 75+ games, Orlando wins the East.

I wonder where we would have gotten with CLee last year. I don't regret not re signing Hedo he was asking for a lot of money and he is past his prime. But I don't regret losing C Lee specially for someone like VC

As for us this year. Top 4 in the East top 5 team in the league however although we don't like to admit it we arent the best nor are we the worse in those top 5. But realistically its pretty impossible (with our current team) to win it all, even with DH taking a HUGE leap. There isn't much we an do about Shard he will be hard to move so lets keep him at SF he is still good and fairly clutch.

If we only had this line up

Dwight/Gortat
Bass/Anderson
Lewis/Pietrus
Lee/Reddick
Nelson/Duhon

I would be so much more optimistic about this season, instead of thinking VC will age and get worse I would be thinking maybe Courtney will play better offense or IDK something.........Ohhhh well

What do they have to do? Continue to play great defense and offense. With Otis opting for continuity vs major changes it means that the personnel matches the system as closely as the management team could hope for.

It can be assumed that Orlando will continue to play stifling defense; the Magic allowed a league 4th best 95.3 ppg last year on a stellar .438 opponent FG% (the only dark spot was a .363 3-ball opponent percentage). With a likely more up tempo offensive effort, let's say Orlando finishes around 96.0 opp. ppg.

On the offensive end, Carter has been in the gym all summer and he and Lewis get a chance to get their games to jive together. Q-Rick will expand further the strength of the 4+1 style. Taken together, along with marginal in-game improvements with Nelson and Howard, Orlando should improve, a bit, on their league 6th best 102.8 ppg. With all the marginal improvements bundled, the Magic could get up to 105.0 ppg.

The most important indicator of wins and loses is "Points Per Game Differential." Last year, Orlando was a league best at +7.5. With the above predictions in defense and offense, the Magic would be at +9.0. This sort of differential is usually good for a 62+ game season :)

by retaining JJ Redick, we automatically secure the 1st overall seed.

I think chemistry will be our main improvement... Although I hope we can find a trade for VC that would be an upgrade, in all honesty lots of players take at least a year to find they're rhythm with a new team and system. Hedo was very marginal until he found a comfort zone with in SVG system hopefully VC does the same in his 2nd year

1. Go big.

2. Hopefully dwight gets better offensively.

3. Have more chemistry and teamwork on both ends than the heat, bulls, celtics, lakers.

Some Magic fans really believe this to be true. Dude should be second or third option off the bench at best. JJ has the ability to be lights out if used the way Nate Robinson was used by the celts.

If Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis can finally mesh, then you are correct; sir.
