DRAFT RULES
Disclaimer: Read all of this before asking any questions. If you're wondering what the hell this is in the first place, it's a forum game where we each build our own teams through the draft, and have them rated by judges to see who can pull off the best team through draft, trades, etc. It's fun! Come join!
1. How many Rounds?
13 rounds, 12 roster spots for each team, and one coach. You may pick any active coach in the NBA or assistant coach in the draft.
2. Draft style?
Serpentine. Draft from spot 1 to 30, then 30 back to 1 and so forth. Draft order will be randomized, using random.org. It will be done way in advance so that picks may be traded before the draft.
3. What about the in-active slots?
To fill out your roster of 15, it's a first come first serve signing of free agents. There will be a finalized list with undrafted players that may be selected posted by me once the draft is over, only AFTER that may you fill in the rest of your roster. You cannot pick more than 2 players at the same time once that happens, as long as it isn't over 15 players.
4. How long for each selection?
We can discuss this in thread to see how much time should be given for each person, or between each picks. I am thinking no longer than 8 hours before it's given up, so if your pick is coming up, EMAIL ME, or the person in front of you.
5. May you draft players from the 2012 draft?
Yes, however you do not know how they will pan out, and will effect your "win now" rating that judges may give you - the point of build-a-team is to create a team that has a soild core now, and in the future, that meshes well. Potential judges are expected to rank teams based on the fact they can win now, in the future, and have players that fill needed roles. In addition, you must only draft players that were on an active teams roster in 2011-2012. No Allen Iverson types.
6. When can trades start? Who/what can be traded?
Before the draft, and after the 1st pick. Trades involving only picks may happen at anytime before you are on the clock, you may not trade while on the clock. If you trade draft picks it has to be the same number of draft picks (ex: 2 and 23 for 5 and 19).
7. Can trades be VETOED?
Yes, if it is too unfair towards one team, we will have people review it.
8. Here is some draft etiquette, and no-no's. DO NOT DO THIS.
- Once your post your pick in thread, it is final.
- If you miss 2 consecutive picks, you may be replaced.
- Official trades must have both parties agree in thread.
- DO NOT NAME DROP PLAYERS THAT ARE NOT TAKEN.
9. What happens after the draft?
After any trades or what have you, there will be a team explanation thread, this is where you pimp your team and tell everybody why you deserve to be the best team in the build-a-team draft. Please provide minutes for each position (48 total). Example: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1183387. Pictures, detailed info on how you plan on your team playing, roles, and salary explanation are very much emphasized.
10. How will you be judged exactly?
-I will find 5 judges, either here or off board that want to judge and read.
-They will be given a point system to judge the draft/teams on.
-No trade bias or player bias should be made in the judging process.
This is not a fantasy draft - numbers will not make you win, it's how your team is as a whole. Judges may have different criteria, however, like stated earlier: the priority should be a well balanced team that can sustain winning now and in the future. How your coach meshes with your players (SVG and Howard?), fit, style, durability (fatigue), depth and how you manage your payroll.
