One of those games again where if you don't fall behind so much early and often, you're right there. That Hawks defense is doing something right to have won the last 8 meetings against us.

The more I watch, the more I think the coaching staff thinks Moe Harkless is not worth the minutes he is being given. He is a non-issue on offense and his defense passed the one game on Carmelo has been average at best.

I have a bad feeling he is Wesley Johnson part 2.

I'm starting to get the exact same feeling. He hasn't really done anything that shows me he can be an impact player in the league, however he is only 19 so it is going to take time.

I was just thinking maybe we could use Hark as trade bait for Bledsoe..

He could use some time in the D-league, he'd get a lot more minutes opportunity to develop. I don't know the league rules, but I would guess it's too late to send him down there right now. I think the way his is being used is actually hurting his confidence right now because you can see he isn't ready. I'd much prefer the team start Redick but honestly even Dequan Jones would be a much better option as a starter. He is pretty much equal in terms of athleticism, and has a higher basketball IQ right now.

I would be suprised if Vaughn sticks with the current lineup more than one more game. I actually

Bobby Ray wrote:Might want to think about bringing Moe back to the bench if we want to be more competitive imo. Moe had two 3pt attempts and missed both and we lost by 6, had Afflalo(who would be in the SF spot) took those shots who knows? Moe would still be getting minutes but maybe he'll be more effective against second units

i can agree with this. granted, I cant watch too many games lately, but he still seems to be adjusting and havent seen a game like his NY game in awhile. whether more coaching is needed or something just not clicking.

when some eventual trades come, i wouldnt mind seeing another SF brought in to develop. Not sure if Jones is SF or SG.

I think we can't honestly judge Harkless until he has played 1 season. We can see areas of his game that could use the most improvement but I think after 1 season then we can start to see what kind of player he develops into. You never know what may happen that everything may just click one day and he will get really good really fast.

Harkless is absurdly young. The guy will play in 240 NBA games and 600+ NBA practices before he turns 22.

They pretty much put Maurice in the corner, I'd like to them let him move more. Something.
I know he missed the shots, but I'm glad he actually got to take some.
LIke JV said, if he hit those, we'd be talking about how great a game he was having. He just needs more shots to develop rhythm.
I'd like to see this team place once without BBD, I'd like to see how the shot distribution would end up with splitting his 15 shots up among everyone else.

Harkless has 10 points and 12 rebounds in the past 6 games. Not on average. Total. At least we're still undefeated in close games.

i feel like there's a sort of passive-aggressive beef going on between afflalo and harkless.

a couple weeks ago after the loss to san antonio, afflalo spoke about defining roles, playing with effort and accountability, mostly referring to other players. he also talked about not sitting on the bench "with a towel on your head" (i believe referring to harkless)

and he talked about the place of rookies and vets:
"the veterans are now- should hold each other accountable and responsible, and it's the rookies' job -- or young players' job, first, second year-- rookies' job, to truly get on board and understand that this is what it takes. you're not gonna just walk in this league and be great and win games. its' gonna take some work, gonna take some camaraderie..."

and later that night, harkless cryptically tweeted:

"Quit looking around, take a look in the mirror"

then tonight, after harkless laid another egg in the starting lineup, afflalo made remarks about getting off to good starts that seemed directed at harkless (see adam's video above):

"for the five guys that do start, we have to make some changes to something we do to get us in a more aggressive mindstate."

a reporter suggested altering the starting lineup

"heh. i don't know about that, i think it's: the guys that start the game need to change the way they play. which includes myself. i'm not alienating anybody, that's for all five of us. we need to- from moe as the rookie, to myself, glen and j.j. as the veterans, nikola being our inside presence. the way we start the game has to just be with a lot more energy. one of us next game will take it upon ourselves to make sure that happens. you can't predict the score, or making shots so it's hard to say we're gonna make shots in the first quarter, but next game we will play with more focus and passion in the first quarter."

it's largely nonverbal and subtextual.. i dunno if i'm reading between the lines, or if i'm just making something out of nothing.

:dontknow:

Precisely. He's a project guy. That's how it goes with those kind of players especially early on. He's not lighting the scoreboard on fire but he's making contributions where he can and he's not making a lot of serious mistakes.

Does anyone else hate watching the Hawks? I've hated watching them since they got Larry Drew as their head coach and he runs their offense so slow.

It also doesn't help that Josh Smith takes a bunch of contested long two point shots a lot.

And, people still complain about BBD or Afflalo. Every team has players that step up to take shots that many fans hate to see.
