McCollum surely isn't worth considering at #2 overall, but with suggestions of trading out of our pick or trying to acquire another first rounder (say from Dallas or Minny) what do you guys think of this kid?

I saw him in person when Lehigh opened the season at Baylor. He blew me away. His team is terrible, so he is the offense. Everyone knows this and yet only an injury could stop him. I would be interested in seeing how he develops as a distributor in the NBA when he actually gets some talent around him. The absolute worst case scenario for him is he comes off the bench as a spark plug 6th man but I see a brighter future for him than that.

He is my favorite player in this draft and I think he can be as good as Steph Curry. If he didn't break his leg early he would probably be a top 3 pick.

I'm a fan as well. I'd take him over all of the PG's, except maybe Burke. Burke and McCollum are close for me. I'm kind of impartial to who we draft because I have faith our FO is going to pick the BPA. But, I'd say he's my favorite prospect as well.

However, I have one qualm with CJ, and if someone could answer this, I'd appreciate it:

What are the differences between Afflalo's game and CJ's game? Everytim I watch CJ, I'm reminded of Afflalo, and I LOATE Afflalo. Can anyone differentiate the characteristics that mke CJ better/worse than Afflalo?

I like a lot of prospects actually. Don't see anything wrong with that. It's not like I'm bashing CJ one moment, and then saying I'd love to have him on the team the other.

CJ is definitely a very nice prospect. I can see him being a Top 5 player from this class when it's all said and done. Versatile scorer with an NBA ready body and a pretty high BBIQ. I guess he kinda has the same question marks that a lot of shooter combo-guards have coming out.. Does he have good enough PG skills to become an NBA PG?.Does he have the athleticism to defend PGs?..

I don't think he falls past Detroit.

especially if we picked up a player like Oladipo....i would much prefer a score first/playmaking pg as we move on. otherwise there aren't too many 1-on-1 scoring options on our team.

if we went the mclemore .... a pass first point guard or more balanced player would be better.

After seeing that video posted on this OP, he looks like his foot looks pretty healed. So getting him in the 10-15 range might be possible. As well as taking McLemore/Oladipo, for the SG position.

I am not sure I would want him being our primary pg, I think he is to much of a combo guard to be the pg of the future, I can definitely see him being a great 6th man.

If you compare the two players' final college season stats I think you can get a sense of why McCollum is a different, more skilled player than Afflalo. McCollum scored more points (23.9 v 16.9), on better shooting from two (49.5 v 46.1), from three (51% v 37%), averaged more rebounds despite being a bit shorter(5 v 2.8), got to the free throw line more (7.5 v 3.5 attempts) shot better from the stripe (84.9 v 80.2), and averaged more assists (2.9 v 1.9).

I know they had different teams (UCLA v Lehigh) and different roles, but I think that McCollum is a better shooter (he shot 51% from three as a senior on 5 attempts per game, isolation player (see the FT attempts), better creator and better passer.

ETA: mixed up some of McCollum's stats from other seaons.

I really liked McCollum before I saw his workout video, but I'm even more impressed now after seeing that he has a very good knowledge of offensive strategies. I think he can be a full time PG at the NBA level even if he doesn't avg more than 6 or 7 assists because I think his shooting and scoring abilities are very good.

i heard he broke both feet. And players with foot injuries...you know how that is

I'm on the Trey Burke wagon just as much as the next guy, but if this draft yields McLemore at #2 and McCollum w/ another acquired 1st, I'd be very happy.

I think hes likely a real PG on the NBA level. Ball handling is excellent, and has a really high basketball IQ. He knows what plays to make, the guy is really a smart player.

I think he can be somewhat Deron Williams like.

You know what....I thought the exact same thing. That's hilarious. I think though, CJ has a better passing game. But yeah his offensive game reminded me alot of Afflalo.

In Afflalo's defense he was also a late bloomer offensively. He came out of college with reputation of being a good defender then later developed into a decent scorer. imo the similarities lie in in the way they move and in their mechanics.

Exactly. For example, watch at 3:00, Afflalo pulls exactly that same move frequently, including kicking the leg out.
