The Foundation...
With the first choice of Coaches and Young Studs, I had the opportunity to truly build an immediate identity. While I could have built a team that was more likely to compete right away...I couldn't resist the chance to build a squad that would develop in to a dominant team and extremely fun to watch.

We have Coach Pop at the helm, his top assistant in real life (Jim Boylen), and Coach K on the bench. You can't argue that these players will not reach their highest potential. Whatever the best version of these players are, it will be brought out.

A perfect balance of raw talent and proven young studs. Even as a young team, in year 1, it is hard to find a weakness. Defense is stout in the paint and on the perimeter. Offense comes from penetration and spreading the floor, executing a highly efficient attack.

The San Antonio Spurs, lead by Phil Jackson boasts one of the most potent lineups ever assembled. It features a top 2 shooting guard, the league’s brightest and most formidable young big men, some of the most versatile and talented perimeter players, true 2 way players, outstanding shooters, a bench that can guard multiple positions, a 6th man of the year candidate, and a floor general who matches perfectly with Phil Jackson’s offense and has the ability to put it all together.

The Spurs were built with balance and versatility in mind, and can run any play style. With Whiteside and Monroe forming a twin towers frontline and defensive wings Justise Winslow and Klay Thompson, one of the best two-way players in the game, defensively this team is stifling. Having Mirotic as a stretch 4 coupled with Klay and Parsons we have the ability to space the floor and run Phil’s triangle offense. Jeff Teague has quietly become a top 10 point guard in the NBA, his advanced stats are up there with the league’s elite point guards, however an elite point guard was never needed in the recipe for success in Jackson’s triangle attack.
What is needed is a steady rock solid point guard who has a high basketball IQ, a good passer and a guy who puts the team first before himself. The way Teague has performed so far in his career has solidified him as a perfect fit under Phil in the triangle.

This team has depth as well and multiple guys can cover multiple positions defensively. Monroe could slide to center if Whiteside is in foul trouble or injured. Justise Winslow can backup the 3 and the 2 and guard the opposing team’s best offensive threat meanwhile giving Klay or Chandler the ability to focus on offense. As the teams dedicated 6th man and offensive spark plug off the bench, Isaiah Thomas can flat out get buckets and exploit most point guard’s ability to handle his quickness. Fournier can backup 3 positions and initiate the offense and or share the ball handling duties with Isaiah Thomas off the bench. Fournier and Winslow can interchange depending on which of the opposing teams wings pose the biggest threat offensively. Tiago Splitter not only boasts the team’s highest TS% but also brings championship experience and a unique skill set for a big man. His high basketball IQ and excellent passing ability makes him perfectly suited for the triangle. This team can go big or small.

Just look at the versatility of this roster...

This team is built for the long haul; the average age of the team is 24.7. Take out Winslow (age 19) and Splitter (age 30) and the rest of the team is all between 24 and 26 years old entering their prime. They will have many years of competing together.

It seems Hassan Whiteside has come out of nowhere this past season with the Heat. On offense, he’s already a DeAndre Jordan-like garbage man, scoring on pick-and-rolls and put-backs. He was the leagues’ third best offensive rebounder this season and one of the best roll men. He averaged 1.41 points per possession in the pick-and-roll, putting him in the NBA’s 97th percentile. He is an impressive shot blocker, swatting away 2.6 per game good for top 5 in the league. Whiteside is a crazy finisher at the rim, hitting 76 percent of his shots right around the basket. He can dunk just about anything, and when he gets the ball close its essentially game over for opposing defenses. However what really makes him unique is his surprisingly refined back to the basket game. He shot an even 51% on the low block this season, and nearly a quarter of his offense came from there. He also flashed some genuinely impressive footwork on occasion.

Some may wonder about Whiteside and if he has the fortitude and discipline to max out his potential. One must look no further than Phil Jackson and his track record with his former players. Phil had to deal with Dennis Rodman, Ron Artest, Kobe and Shaq’s contrasting egos, and he won rings with all of them. The Zen master not only brings a winning basketball philosophy and game plan but also has the ability to find what the individual player needs to hear and to be treated to get the most out of. From an Xs and Os standpoint this team can mesh in multiple ways, on the human side of things Phil Jackson will draw from his experience with some of histories best players and biggest attitude/egos and bring the cohesion that is needed to go all in one for all and all for one to add to Jacksons already impressive 11 championship rings as a coach.

Irving and Lawson are both very good point guards. Butler is arguably the best wing in the nba. Lee is a 3 and d guy.
Green is a combo forward and is a tough defender while Wiggins is a young t-mac who's only going to improve.

Between gasol, Jonas and Lopez u have 3 quality 7 footers all of whom can play defense at least solidly. Kaminsky is going to be our 10th man and strictly a 3 point specialist.

We can go small and pair Lawson and Irving together as Irving isn't the Cavs primary ball handler so he should be okay playing some off the ball. Green is a very capable stretch 4 and allows us to bring Butler to sf.
We feel we have 3 future nba 1st team guys, a possible 10 center and a guy who's shown to be effective in the situation he's in which is 3 and d.

We will also play Butler, Wiggins and green together at times and have some matchup problems for opposing teams

Quick Writeup:

Quality of Talent:
Orlando's starters consist of 4 all-stars and 2 members of the all-nba team. Joe Johnson and Andrew Bogut, the Magic's 2 key players off the bench have also made the all-nba team.

Longevity:
The Magic are not the youngest team, but they are definitely not old, either. Our oldest starter is Chris Bosh (31), and all of our key players are just entering or in the prime of their careers, except Joe Johnson who's minutes will be monitored throughout the season. We feel we have at least a good 5 year window to compete for the Eastern Conference.

Offense:
Orlando has a both a perimeter go-to scorer (Harden) and a go-to post scorer (Bosh). Each of our starters can shoot and stretch the floor, which will give Harden room to operate. Same with Bosh. Harden is one of the best passing SGs in league history, and will pick apart defenses with PnR/P with Bosh/Millsap. Holiday will serve as a secondary ballhandler in case teams over-play Harden. He's more than capable of both scoring and passing. Our bigs are also relatively good ballhandlers and passers as well. Honestly I don't see how teams will be able to stop us.

Defense:
Holiday, Crowder, Millsap and Bogut are among the best at their positions defensively. They all will play big minutes so although we don't have a big time shot blocker in our starting 5, Bogut will get his 30+ minutes off the bench so I do not see us having much trouble up front.

Tomjanovich was named the Rockets' interim head coach in February, 1992 after Chaney's resignation. After nearly leading the Rockets to a playoff berth, he was given the job on a permanent basis.

In his first full season on the job (1992-93), Tomjanovich guided the Rockets to the Midwest Division title, making him the first head coach to ever take his team from the lottery to a division crown during his first full season. Building on this success, Rudy T. led the team to back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995. On the playoff run to their second title, the Rockets became the lowest seed (sixth) to win one, and the only team in history to defeat the teams with the four best regular season records in the playoffs. It was on the floor of The Summit after they captured their second title that Rudy proclaimed, "Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion!" In his 11-plus season tenure as Rockets head coach, he posted a 503–397 (.559) regular-season record and a 51–39 (.567) playoff mark. His career wins and winning percentage are Rockets franchise records. Tomjanovich left the team after the 2002-03 season when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer, ending a 33-year association with the Rockets franchise—including its first 32 years in Houston—as a player, assistant coach and head coach.

Tomjanovich was well known for his instinctive managerial style and intensity on the bench. Always self-deprecating, he nonetheless heaped tremendous pressure on himself and his assistants to be prepared for each game, several times being hospitalized for exhaustion. After winning back-to-back titles, Tomjanovich deflected much of the praise and eschewed the "genius" label assigned to other champion coaches like Chuck Daly and Phil Jackson. His hands-off, easy-going manner with his players gave him a reputation as a "players coach," and as such veteran players were eager to play on his teams. Among the stars who requested and were granted trades to Houston during his tenure were Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, and Scottie Pippen.

This team and coaching staff was built to perfection to fit his style of play. The players will LOVE playing for him. This team is built to last. I have the perfect mix of youth and experience. And my team is young enough to grow and get better and better over the years. Sustainability is key!

Anthony Davis is a beast. Carmelo has never played with talent like he has on this team. A PURE ball distributor like Rondo will help this trio be the talk of the league for ages to come. Having a pure passer like Rondo and a game manager fits my coaches style to perfection. He is as intense a player as his coach and it will rub off on the whole team. I have 4 players from UK on this squad and it will help with team chemistry as well and the team chemistry built on playing style. Korver is the best shooter in the game and his #'s back it up. Gallinari and Montiejunas are 6'10 and 7' respectably and can shoot the rock and knock down 3s and also are great passers. Z-BO is my clean up man and the best cleanup man in the game. Willie Cauley Stein can guard all 5 positions and is one of the most athletic and fast footed 7 footers to ever come into the league. He is already rated as an above average NBA defender. He can shut down people. And he comes to this team with only 1 purpose. To shut down people. End of story. No high expectations for him. he gets to come in and learn and grow on a championship caliber team right away. PERFECT.

I built this team with chemistry as my key element. All play Defense! I have 5 guys who can shoot the 3. I have rebounding and passing. I have the best shooter, the best PF, the best clean up man all on the same team. This team has fire and I will put it up against anyone out there.

Roster Overview:

I built this team with athleticism, defense, ball movement, and versatility in mind. The many athletic and elite defenders on the team will go very well with Riley and Pitino's aggressive defensive schemes that uses constant and unrelenting pressure to force turnovers and bad shots to create fastbreak opportunities that will lead to jaw dropping, highlight reel plays that nearly every player could initiate or finish. To complement this defense will be the offensive system of Ettore Messina. Messina, who is a disciple of the legendary Popovich, implements a system based around the balanced skill sets of the collective 5 players on the floor that is designed to manipulate opposing defenses by spreading the floor with 3 point shooters and constantly moving the ball and players around the floor to create mismatches and open shots.

This team is comprised of 7 of players who are 25 or younger: Mudiay is the youngest at 19, Oladipo and Harris are 22, and Bledsoe, Griffin, Ibaka and Dieng are 25. Since the core of the team is between either entering the league or their individual primes, they will all grow together as a unit. To keep the kids heads on straight, the veterans Chandler, Carroll and Morrow bring experienced leadership. Tyson Chandler also brings championship experience to this young team and will lead them as a coach on the floor with his knowledge of the grind of the regular season and the resolve needed to win the battles of the postseason.

Position Review:

PG- Eric Bledsoe is an absolute bulldog of a player, who is both physically and mentally tough which is the perfect mindset for a starting point guard of a Pat Riley coached team. He is a versatile guard who does a lot of things well, including scoring from wherever, setting up teammates to score in transition and in half court sets and most of all, defend. Although he clocks in at 6'1, he is an incredible athlete for his size, (he earned that nickname "Mini-Lebron" for a reason). He can use his elite defensive prowess to defend both point guards and shooting guards as the tip of the spear of Riley and Pitino's aggressive defense.

Emmanuel Mudiay is a tall 6'5 point guard who is an athletic freak, a tough defender and an unselfish, pass first player. Think of a bigger John Wall. He can make an immediate impact on a championship contender, but needs time to be groomed to his full potential. Who better to do that than Pat Riley who has a lot of experience with turning tall point guards into Hall-of-Famers.

SG- Oladipo is one of the young pillars of the team. He brings a well-rounded skillset to the table, he can score, rebound, assist and defend. He can even play point guard in a pinch. Not only one of the best young shooting guards, he is one of the most productive shooting guards in the league right now, as of the 2014-2015 season. He is just starting to tap into his potential, and at 22 not even close to reaching his prime. A star in the making.

Morrow is the designated sniper of the team, hitting about 43% of his 3s. He comes off the bench to keep defenses spread out and will be ready to fire whenever Messina's offense finds him open, which will be often. Can play both shooting guard and small forward.

SF- Tobias Harris is the team's best perimeter scorer. He scores with excellent efficiency through the offensive system with open shots and cuts to the rim and can create his own shot when needed. When the team absolutely needs a bucket in the biggest moments of the game, Harris is the guy his teammates will look to. Harris has a versatile body type which will allow him to play at both forward spots. As one of the younger players on the team, he will only get better as he gets closer to his prime and will be a long standing pillar of the franchise.

Demarre Carroll is the first wing off the bench as an elite 3 and D role player. A guy who gladly takes the responsibility of locking down the opponents best perimeter scorer and brings a deadly 39% 3 point shot to the floor to spread it out for his teammates. This is the guy I had my heart set on when I made the one trade of mine in the draft.

Coaching and Vision:



Billy Cunningham won a couple of titles in Philly back in the day with a team not to dissimilar to mine. They played at a high pace with a slow-paced center and had a couple of high-energy bench guys to come in and reek havoc on the other team's offense. Billy will man the helm with Ed being the go-between him and the players, while Shaka Smart installs a little bit of his havoc system in the Blazers fully utilizing Beverly and Amir Johnson. Amir is one of the most underrated defenders in the league and is feared for a reason. Oh, I forgot to mention the guy that brings it all together, Lou Williams, reigning 6th man of the year, who will bring the shooting we need to round out the roster.

We feel as though Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid will quickly grow into the faces of the franchise after being giving some time to properly rehab. As they mature, we will move Rudy and Al to give the new guys room to grow. Until then, we are steadied by two borderline All-star studs.

That brings us to the real All-stars, Wall, DeRozan, and LMA. A perfect blend of age and talent, these three can play together for years in their prime. Aldridge is a post wizard and his game will last another decade ala Dirk's and Duncans. John Wall gives us everything we need whenever we need it, and DeRozan is a deadly scorer at just 25 he is averaging nearly 21ppg, 5apg, and 4 rebounds and a respectable 1.3 steals per game. Lou Williams brings the deep ball.

-Quality of Talent (x3)



Pretty simple here. We have 3 all-stars in their prime, two borderline all-stars, and quality backup defenders as well as two of the most heralded rookies to come out over the last couple years and the 6th man of the year. We will be one of the top offenses in the league and a top 10 defensive team in year 2 or 3.

-Team Chemistry (x2)



We will play fast paced offense and havoc defense to bring out the defender in DeRozan and Gay. Offensively you won't touch us. We will get into the paint, get to the line, and kill you with our penetration outlet passes to our bigs on the elbows or Lou Williams and Rudy Gay at the 3pt line. Billy Cunningham is famous for making slow players play fast and finding a way to keep the pace up.

We have young proven all-stars. We have amazing veterans who have 5+ years left in the tank, possibly 8 years for LMA. We have youth. We have it all. Just look at that team. They could play together for a nearly a decade.

We have winners. We have pesky defenders. We have killer instincts. We have guys with chips on their shoulders. We have the energy. We have the refusal to lose. We have a track record of assassins, well, except for Al Jefferson, but that man can score!

-Offense



By far the #1 offense in the BaT, just look at that shine.

-Defense



We're not going to be the best offensive team in the world, but we'll have guys get back, leaving only two offensive board crashers in at a time, and we'll sick Beverley and Amir on the other team's better players. We will run the press and take advantage of our youth, we will create havoc.

My approach going into the draft was to assemble an amorphous, well rounded, skilled squad. You know, a basketball team. I think I did a good job following that vision.

Some of my main focal points, essential and fundamental aspects of basketball - that are imperative to winning championships are rebounding and defense.

The more possessions you have, the more chances you have to score.

The more possessions you limit and alter, the less chance your opponent scores.

I also tried to look for players that had well rounded skill sets. It's important to keep the ball moving in basketball, to find open players and to take good shots.

I tried to keep the team long and athletic, to patrol lanes on defense and get steals and blocks. As well as finding the open man and finishing in position. I think the roster will also be able to play the pick and roll well, space the floor, and score in a half court game.

Elite ability to adapt is imperative to winning playoff series.

PG

Derrick Rose: Former MVP. 6'3 with a 6'8 wingspan, great size for a PG. Great athleticism, heart, and the desire to compete. Still only 26 years old!

So far this postseason he is averaging 19.8 PPG, 4.2 REBS, 6.4 AST, 0.6 BLKS, and 1.6 STLS.

Goran Dragic: 6'4 with a 6'7 wingspan. Dragic is a crafty, and athletic 28 year old guard. He will be a great floor general for the second unit and could start on most teams. He has the ability to create shots for himself and others. He is a capable three point shooter and reliable free throw shooter.

His averages this season were 16.3 PTS, 4.5 ASTS, 3.5 REBS, and 1.0 STL per game.

SG

Reggie Jackson: 6'3 with an incredible 7'0 wingspan. At age 25 he will be a great counterpart to Derrick Rose as he will be able to create his own shot or find others. Reggie is an incredible athlete. He uses this advantage to get to the foul line where he converts a great percentage, 83%. His long arms should result in steals and has the capability to lead the charge in transition or be the finisher at the rim.

His season averages: 14.5 PPG, 6.0 ASTS, 4.2 REBS.

Iman Shumpert: At age 24, Shumpert is the perfect defensive anchor off the bench. He will help influence the defensive identity the team has assembled. He has good size for a guard at 6'5 with a 6'9.5 wingspan. He is one of the best perimeter defenders in basketball. He is also a good rebounder for his position and is capable or scoring the ball and stretching the floor as well.

His PER 35 for this year: 11.6 PTS, 5.3 RBS, 3.1 ASTS, and 1.9 STLS.

SF

Kawhi Leonard: The 23 year old defending Finals MVP and DPOY, Kawhi is one of the finest young players in the league, and he is no where near his peak. Every season Kawhi has continued to improve in every facet of basketball, on his way to becoming one of the leagues most complete players.

He is the prototypical wing at 6'7, with a 7'3 wingspan and absolutely enormous hands. He is a very intelligent player who understands when to shoot, when to pass, and when to take it to the rim. He can stretch the floor or score on you in the post.

His averages for this year: 16.5 PTS, 2.5 ASTS, 7.2 REBS, 0.8 BLKS, and 2.3 STLS.

Luol Deng: At 6'9 with a 7'0 wingspan, another prototypical wing player. The oldest and most experienced player on the roster at age 30. He still has 6+ solid seasons left in him. Especially if he will not have burden the heavy minutes of seasons past. He will continue to imprint the defensive and competitive ideology of the team. Always a hard worker, he has great intangibles.

Season Avgs: 14.0, 1.9, 5.2, 1 STL.

Aaron Gordon: A 19 year old elite athlete that is still growing! Aaron is 6'9 with a 7'0 wingspan. As aforementioned, he is a freakish athlete. He is an intense and high motor player capable of guarding positions 1-5. He will be an important part of the bench and will also play in the starting line up depending on the context of the match-up. John Henson: A 24 year old talent with some rare gifts. Henson stands in at 6'11 with an incredible 7'5 wingspan. He will grow into being an elite rim protector and rebounder. He also has a soft touch around the rim and will also be able to play the pick and roll, and easily catch and finish over defenders.

His PER 36 numbers are very intriguing for a young prospect. 13.8 PTS, 1.7 ASTS, 9.1 RBS, 4.0 BLKS, and 0.8 STLS. Good luck scoring over him, if you even get that far.

Nik Vucevic: At 24, he is already one of the best Centers in the game. Standing in at 7' with a 7'4.5 wingspan, he contributes to the size and length of the roster. He is a double-double machine and will thrive next to a tremendous shot blocker like Henson. Vuc is a good athlete and is able to hold his own on defense.

Vuc averaged 19.3 PTS, 10.9 RBS, 2.0 ASTS, 0.7 BLKS, and 0.7 STLS per game this season.

It starts with the leadership of the team. Coach Daly was heralded for establishing a winning culture with the Bad Boy Pistons of the 80s and keeping the egos of the 1992 Olympic team in check. CP3 creates the ultimate harmony for others with his leadership and playmaking. Wade has always been an unselfish player who wanted to be surrounded by talent. Iguodala is the ultimate glue guy always willing to do whatever the team asked. I was careful in selecting the backup bigs because I wanted room for Cousins to dominate and not worry about who's behind his back as a potential disruption. Thus his only backup is fellow Wildcat alum Nerlens Noel who offers a different type of game. Noel also plays PF with Smoove who is being asked to groom a guy who has a lot in common with him in terms of personality and game styles in and Bobby Portis.
