The undrafted players: Alexander, Harrison, Upshaw and Wood

Post#1 » by drsd » Fri Jun 26, 2015 9:20 am

Four undrafted players really stand out to me:
Cliff Alexander, PF/C, Kansas
Aaron Harrison, SG, Kentucky
Robert Upshaw, PF/C, Washington
Christian Wood, PF, UNLV

All four of these guys just have that "NBA baller" vibe to them. I think any of the four would look good in Magic blue.

Poll question: which one undrafted player would you like seen in the Magic's Summer camp?

For me, that Orlando drafted two SGs means Harrison is out. Upshaw is a head case and is not a GM Hennigan type of player. Between Alexander and Wood, Cliff Alexander seems like a guy that can immediately contribute to the practice squad by playing energy-defense. His total lack of an offensive game makes him a very deep-bench player, at best. But I think he could help the Magic.

Christian Wood for me I still have no idea how a young player with his skill set goes undrafted, I know he is extremely skinny but the kid can ball. I also wouldn't mind seeing T.J. McConnell, Alan Williams, LeBryan Nash, Seth Tuttle, Royce O'Neale, or Tyler Haws on either of our Summer League teams.

Alexander or Wood for me.

Like both (from what I've seen) and most of the time I'd hedge towards getting the forwards just because I feel like they are often more of a need.

It is a good point that Orlando must bring in loads of players to balance the teams to even numbers.

Whether one team will be Payton/Marble/Hezonja/Gordon/Dedmon and the other some version of the Washington Generals awaits to be seen.

Yeah I would love to nab Wood or even Upshaw. Not sure why Wood or Upshaw didn't get taken in the second by someone. And what happened to Chris Walker? He was talked about as a lottery pick at one point and then he started falling a bit but I have lost track of him lately and didn't even notice where he was being projected at coming into the draft. But yeah did some research and not sure I would really want him. I don't have much interest in Cliff Alexander as I think he is an undersized PF who doesn't bring much offensively as said before. Defensively I don't think he projects as good fit here because he is undersized. Maybe he can contribute in the summer league but if I had to pick one it would be Wood but I wouldn't mind Upshaw either and I think either has the potential to possibly stick.

Turns out Chris Walker was nothing more than a freakish athlete with no actual basketball skills. He needed to be a 4 year guy at UF to learn some semblance of a game but the wrong people got in his ear.

But I don't feel too badly for him. He'll make a lot more money getting 6/4/2 a night for some Turkish club than I'll ever see.

I'd like to see the Magic bring in Trevor Lacey as a potential backup PG candidate. He's got good size, he can shoot the and he's a bit older so I think he's more mature than the typical draftee so that should help with backing up a young PG in Payton.

Surprised no one took Frazier out of Florida in the late second round. Strong shooter

Please Henni. Get Cliff Alexander. I think he is a better version of OQuinn.

While I wouldn't mind adding him I think he lacks ideal height for the PF position and he isn't a SF. I don't think he would be a better option for us then O'Quinn or Dedmon. If I would pick someone it would be Wood who does have good height and can play D and has more of an offensive game then Alexander.

Wood should at least get an invite to summer league. I know that he's a project, but I wonder why he wasn't drafted?

Other.

No to Alexander and Harrison, and hell no to Upshaw.

What about Wesley Saunders?

Analytics love him. Plus, he's a smart high character dude. At this stage of the game, those alone are good enough for me.

Attitude problems put aside Upshaw, imo, can be a decent player. Too good of a shotblocker to pass up on.

I agree with all the support for Christian Wood. He would look great in Magic blue. Orlando could have an opening at the PF slot, if O'Quinn or Nicholson moves on.
