So Orlando definitely needs to sign or trade for a backup point guard

Post#1 » by VucchiManee » Fri Jul 3, 2015 6:03 am

I was wondering if any other Magic fans were also thinking about our current point guard situation. Elfrid Payton is great and all but we still need shooting from that position. I was hoping that we'd either go after Rodney Stuckey, Jameer Nelson, Matthew Dellavedova or trading for Patty Mills. My favorite one of these is going after Dellavedova. I know some people might not be completely sold on him but I think he'd totally be worth giving a look at and see if we can work out a deal. He can make big shots and carry an offense while having that gritty, tenacious defensive mentality. I'd be psyched if we struck a deal with him. I feel Delly and Payton would push each other to other limits. If anything we make Cleveland pay him what they don't want to pay him. I also like the idea of Stuckey or Patty Mills. Both experienced guards that can run an offense and spread the floor. Nelson would be our last resort but still a welcomed one. I'd love to have him mentor Payton.

Any other ideas for some point guards out there we can bring in via trade or FA?

What about Austin Rivers??

I say it as a joke, but i will say living in SoCal, i saw alot of clippers games, he really did start to look like a legit nba player towards the end of the season

hes better playing for a veteran team to keep him in check. But seriously who's our current backup pg? We should bring jameer back.

Tyler Harvey could be our 3rd string PG with Dipo being our 2nd. No? Ok maybe get one pure PG?

If it's true that Nelson left on his own terms last year, I bet he wishes he had just stayed in Orlando.

Now he's just getting shuffled around the league to come off the bench...

Siva will get a good look by GM Hennigan. But he projects as a 3rd stringer and not a back-up.

Dellavedova can make big shots and carry an offense?

*Thinks back to NBA Finals*

28% FG

*Thinks back to ECF*

30% FG

*Thinks back to Regular Season*

36% FG

I think Chris Duhon is still available. He would be the perfect point guard to allow us to play to our strengths.... The defensive side of the court.

I think Oladipo could serve as the back up PG. Fournier would come in for Payton first off bench and could run a Oladipo/Fournier backcourt for stretches. I think Harvey has a chance to get minutes as well with the way he can shoot the ball. I love Paton and think he's going to be very good but right now he isn't. It makes me nervous bringing in a veteran to back him up because they may think they in fact should be the one starting over him.

For me, I know it's unlikely but Rodney Stuckey is who is like also. I'd love Jameer to return also and even acquiring Jarrett Jack. Any of those 3 would be ok with me. I think a veteran at the back up pg would be essential to the Magic improving. Some leadership couldn't hurt either.

this. I think they wait to see how Siva does this summer. I think he has a strong chance to make it.

Delly would be a bad choice. Did you not watch the playoffs? he plays good D, but he cant get his shot off against anyone who plays him. The only time he got it off was when his man backed off to help double team someone else. And his handles arent good that he cannot create for anyone else either.

I'm convinced some people don't watch the sport but just listens to storylines being feed to them. Delladova is damn near d league material. Probably is gonna be when separated from the best player in the world.

that was an oxymoron, saying how we need guys who can score at that position and then talk about Dellevadova being a great fit

However, I would really like if we could try and get Cory Joseph as a backup

I'm hoping for Siva...with the majority of backup PG minutes split between Oladipo and Fournier.

A name I haven't seen around here is Sergio Rodriguez. His Real Madrid contract is up and he has shown to be one of the best guards in Europe. I would love to have Spanish Chocolate. Rodriguez led Real Madrid to the 2015 Euroleague championship and was the 2014 Euroleague MVP.
