Compare the Bucks to the Magic

Post#1 » by IGotDaMagicInMe » Thu Jul 9, 2015 11:07 pm

The bucks made the playoffs last year while the Magic wallowed in the lottery.

I didn't watch the bucks much last year so I have to ask you guys, how much of that is due to their far superior coaching (kidd vs vaughn) and how much is due to their players actually being better?

Roster for upcoming year:

MCW vs Payton

Middleton vs Oladipo

Parker vs Harris

Henson vs Gordon

Monroe vs Vuc

Giannis vs Hezonja

Bayless vs Watson

Mayo vs Fournier

What would last year's Bucks and Celtics look like with Vaughn/Borrego coaching?

It's the coaching. They were a 15 win team before Kidd joined them.

To be fair, they also tanked HARD when they won 15 games. Realistically, they could have won 24-28 games. Then you factor in Brandon Knight having a great year, middletons development and OJ mayo actually looking like a basketball player again, as well as another year for giannis that's probably another 6-8 wins which takes you to 30-36 wins. The rest can be attributed to coaching.

The way I see the magic is:
internal development (VO/12/AG/EP/vuc/Evan)
+5 wins
Summer acquisitions :
+2 wins
Coaching change:
+6 wins

That's a 13 win improvement taking us to 38-44. I expect anywhere from 38 to 43 wins next season. That should be good enough for 6-8 seed in the east.
I live rent free in your head. You know who you are :D

Not changing this sig until Magic win a championship. Started 6/26/2015.

Bucks' veterans played really well last season for significant minutes and they've already demonstrated the ability to hit top 5 defense with all their length. Our rotation is still so damn young. There will be ups and downs.

We're still a championship contender unless I am proven otherwise.

That's my score. 4 to 4. Giannis wasn't really good, but no idea what Hezonja will bring. Gordon may be better than Henson was but we'll have to wait and see.

Mil's veterans played very well and we're instrumental in their good season. Having a real coach also helped them a ton.

The Bucks played hard nearly every game and rarely took defensive possessions off. They just added a legit big man and a healthy Parker will be back.

This team will be competing for a top 5 seed IMO.

We'll be lucky to scrape into the 8th spot.

They just lost another vet that played really well for them, Zaza Pachulia. (Thank God he's out of our conference.)

It'll be worth watching how that affects them since they are ahead of us in their rebuild.

Is MIddleton really better than oladipo? I mean, post all star break Oladipo was was scoring 20+ pts a game. And is MCW better than Payton?

I agree with maybe 2 of his 8 picks.

This question will throw the thread off the rails. Just keep in mind that Middleton was very efficient and played great defense. There really weren't any players like him on our roster last season.

And is MCW better than Payton?

Gosh, no. Payton knows his limitations, so he doesn't actively detract from the team on offense. MCW is so awful that I'm quietly rooting for him to turn it around.

I'm taking Oladipo over Middleton, anyday, same with Gordon over Henson.
