Shabazz Napier, the next Jameer Nelson?

What's his ceiling? What's his floor? What are we in for? People questioned if Jameer could play in this league. We know how that turned out. Does this guy have the same potential?

Betteridge's law of headlinesCeilings and floors are dumb. My optimistic but realistic hope is that he becomes a solid backup point guard on a good team.

I remember hoping for Jameer to become a solid PG behind Francis... He ended up staying 10 years

Napier will likely be a career backup. He is not only short but not imposing physically by any means. Meer at a younger age was already solidly built and cat quick. Meer is also a better athlete because of how much elevation he gets on his shot.
Napier is still a good player but probably a poor man's meer.

Wow. What a way to **** on this guy's thread.
I get the comparison, mostly because they are both a bit undersized, talented offensively and had really successful college careers. I just don't see the same career trajectory. I think Napier will always be a backup, whereas Jameer Nelson was a legitimate NBA starter for a number of years. Toward the end of his run in Orlando, you could probably make the argument that he shouldn't be a starter. However, 2009-2010 Jameer was actually really good.

I see the comparison. Both were college superstars who got drafted in the 20s. Undersized but play bigger then their listed height. Good outside shooters. Solid ball handlers who are crafty and quick. With all that being said I alway thought Jameer should have been a back up. He was solid for us but that's all he was..solid. If Shabazz improves his shot selection and cleans up his TOs he can be a one of the best back up PGs in the NBA one day. Ala CJ Watson

Good backup PG for the team that's about it.

Well.... it is only year one... playing 3rd string. So we're still not sure where he will end up. haha... even though he's probably about to play his second year at 3rd string.... but we can't tell how they are going to develop. He is pretty crafty with the ball.... and his confidence might come along with it. But Heck... if all that comes around I hope he's playing our backup to Payton!
Don't forget....
GM L. James signed off on him... so you know he must be good!

I like the comparison. I think he is a better playmaker though.
Good backup PG off the bench.

I think OP meant that Napier likes to shoot crazy contested 3's like Jameer.

I'm sure he'll get undeserved hate because he isn't the real GM mandated height and weight but a solid back up nonetheless. Didn't he post numbers similar to CJ Watson?

He can be a decent backup PG similar to Carlos Arroyo. I have no problem with that, just hope he is more pass happy than shoot happy. He seems to be a better 3pt shooter than Arroyo was.

I'd say I see him in the vein of Arroyo too, only not as big or talented. Napier can be a solid backup in the NBA. I'm definitely hopeful he becomes that for the team. Not really feeling the Jameer Nelson comparisons. Jameer was a much more physical, more polished player, and pretty clutch to boot.

CJ Watson will help groom up EP and Napier, our starter/back up PG for the future.
I'm not sure what NBA comparison I'd give Napier but he seems to have good ball handling, good shooting, good passing, good speed, great off the bench energy guy to come in and give a spark when needed.
I don't mind a Jameer Nelson comparison for him.

Darrell Armstrong?
Oh, sorry, I thought this was a "name as many lower-middle-tier PGs as you can" thread.

Jameer was always an undersized score first point guard who would of served a team much better off the bench. Napier seems to be able to fill that role from what little I've seen. I like to start the season with really high hopes and full faith in our guys. Honestly, this year's roster seems to have more balance in both current ability and longterm longevity. I won't mind seeing anyone on our roster play ball and hopefully none of them become face palms like some of our players from years past.
I like the Carols Arroyo comparison as well. I also agree that CJ Watson could help groom Napier and Elfrid abit too.
I really like Napier's flashy pg passing skills and his 3s. He should be fun to watch.
