What Would YOU Pay Tristan Thompson??

Post#1 » by BlueBalls » Fri Aug 14, 2015 11:16 am

Contracts for these average to good players are getting so out of hand.

TT and his agent are wanting a max deal. That's INSANE in my opinion.

To me, a guy like Thompson should be able to command a short term deal worth about 8 mil/per. Gives him some nice walkin' 'round money while he develops (hopefully) into the type of player who can demand a max contract.

What say you?

Yeah the max for s guy who's only skill is rebounding is crazy to me.

I wouldn't want him because we have Gordon were trying to groom at that spot. Wouldn't be worth whatever 8 figures we'd have to offer to get him.

I'm not even talking in terms of what Orlando's needs may or may not be. Just in general. If you're a GM, assuming you need a guy with his skill set, what would be a fair offer?

Considering frye is making 8, I'd say 4/44 would be fair.

4/48 seems the most I would pay considering EVERYTHING.

Frye is the example that proves my point.

Average players are commanding way too much in this market environment. It can't and won't continue.

If he has a solid season this year in which he improves upon last year, then I just might give him something comparable to what Harris obtained.

Contracts should be thought of more in terms of fractions of the cap. While it is true that contracts have ballooned of late; in this regard those same contracts (and many more to follow) are really no more extreme with respect to the upcoming cap hike than previous contracts.

Hearing these huge numbers for role players will take getting used to but it will continue. There is just so much money available now.

That's going to be the average salary by next year. TT knows that. No way he takes that offer. I think the 4/48 is probably the right number in this salary era.

Deal starts at 10M first year with allowable increases thereafter for the length of the contract.

A starting caliber PF in today's NBA will always command a number well North of 8M a season. The 4748 idea is about what he is worth, but on an open market, he easily could command more.

It's fun to speculate but the Cavs are in a unique situation because they can go over the cap to re-sign him, but they'll have trouble replacing his contribution with the other methods for teams over the cap.

If I were the Cavs I would offer 5/75. He already turned down 4 years at $13M/yr last season so that's a reasonable raise without being absurd. He can take the QO if he doesn't want it. Which is a decent consolation prize for the Cavs because at least they get him for a year and the landscape will be different by then. They might be able to make new moves with the rising cap.

In a vacuum, you'd pay him 4/$48M or maybe 4/$53M. But, he's got some decent leverage with the Cavs and he's going to get overpaid. I mean, they got close to agreeing on a 5/$80M deal. It's an old NBA classic: decent big man gets massively overpaid because decent big men are harder to come by.

that's totally incorrect...player's salaries are proportional to the NBA salary cap not your concept of what is too much. The NBA cap is going up and up and will continue to go up for the foreseeable future...cap increases used to be 1-3 million per year....but the massive global growth of the NBA brand has taken it from $63m last year to $70m this year, $89m next year, $110m the year after, and those estimates we're made before the NBA signed a massive new uniform contract w Nike and international revenues are exponentially growing.

He will get the max or close to it because the cavs cant replace him and their fo is not creative enough to do it otherwise. That and their agent drives a hard bargain, he did the same thing last year with Bledsoe and got him way more money.

Can someone tell me if the cavs have already used their exceptions? Thompson is a fine player but if you ask me the cavs are going to end up paying a huge tax bill to lose to the dubs/spurs in the finals.

I dont like thompson because he doesnt have a definable skill other than athleticism and energy.

Doesnt post, doesnt shoot, bad rim protector, good mobility and athleyicism but you should be able to find someone like him for less than half the price if they had cap space but alas theyre way over the cap already and are hellbent on making the most out of the end of lebrons prime and are again under lebrons control cause he took another 1 year deal and so they must pay a huge tax bill to keep the team together to keep him happy.

I could probably afford to pay him $5/week if we're having a really good month. If not I'd probably have to ask my wife. :/
The future is bright 8-) Payton said. ``I just want to keep getting better and maybe one day I can be the all-time all assists leader for the Magic.’’
