Any word on Kyle O'Quinn?

Post#1 » by TodGre » Fri Nov 13, 2015 6:01 pm

Anybody hear how O'Quinn is doing up in NY? I admit that Jason Smith has impressed me more than I thought he would, but I'm sure most people would admit that O'Quinn still would be a better backup PF than Smith. That said I can see pros to Smith (taller, longer, and better shooter).

His per-36 numbers look similar to his first two years before we ruined him shooting 3s. Most of the metrics like him even more than usual. Most importantly, the beard is back.

I kind of miss him, but I'm not going to cry about it.

Yeah, I always loved his enthusiasm and hustle at the defensive end. Jason Smith also plays pretty good defense, albeit he is prone to fouling, but glad he doesn't give up easy shots. I think he has real potential to become a fairly solid defensive stretch 4, which would make Channing Frye completely expendable.

Like I have said before, I really like Kyle as a person, but I don't miss having him on the team. I much rather have Smith in a one year deal than KO on a multi-year deal. Glad he can play for his home city and can get solid minutes though. So I think it worked out for the best for everyone.

He was doing well as a backup, but I noticed his minutes have been noticeably cut the last 3 games... wonder what that's all about.

Just Googling box scores, man. If you want details, go ask the team forum.

Looks like he turned in another Harkless special recently.

16 minutes with 0-2 FG, 0-1 3PT, 0-0 FT, 0 rebs, 1 ast, 0 blk, 0 stl, 0 to, 0 pf

Get in the game, Moe!

Has nothing to do with that. O'Quinn has been phenomenal for us.

Our idiot coach decided to put him at backup PF when he was flourishing at backup C.

The reason? Because Seraphin and Admunson got out of the injury list and became healthy. So he decided to give his minutes to those two career third stringers for no other reason than just because. :banghead: :banghead:

Ouch, I always thought he had so much potential, but just doesn't seem to have the will or desire to play this game at the NBA level.

Have Porzingis and O'Quinn played together at all?

OQuinn was prone to fouling too.

Yeha they have. They work well together.

So much so personally at the end of games i wanted O'Quinn/Porz/Melo/Galloway/Grant to finish the games. But Lopez has been good too so can't really complain.

Up till the two third stringers got healthy we all felt O'Quinn was an absolute steal. Reminded us a bit of Oakley but at the 5.

He's losing minutes to Kevin Seraphin and Lou Admunson? I remember when third stringer Dewayne Dedmon took his minutes...

How has his pick and roll defense been? How about when his guy drags him out beyond his safe zone (3 ft from basket) - he getting better at defending outside the restricted area?

Yep he is because our coach is an idiot.

His pnr defense has been solid. His oberall defense is solid. His only flaw is defending stretch 4s. He is just not fast enough to go to the 3pt or 15 ft out. Which is why he was excelling at the 5. He was strong enougj to guard the paint and hitting the 15 footer on slower 5s faces. He was also passing great off the elbow.

But of course they put him at the 4 and **** everything up cuz you know Admunson needs playing time. :banghead:
