I got into my first car accident a little over a year ago my car was totaled and was a total lost ( wasn't at fault ) went through therapy : rehab ,chiropractor did a couple MRIs results came back and nothing too serious , so long story short I'm getting a check for my troubles it's estimated to be around 12,000-18,000 I've been with out a car for nearly a year so when I get that check is probable that I spend at least half of it on a luxurious vehicle , which I'm still indecisive between a 335i BMW a Lexus IS 250 or a A5 Audi I know for these cars maintenance is really expensive which is one of the main reasons I'm buying the car relatively new to avoid those kinds of issues , ( not talking me into getting an old car to avoid the payments I feel comfortable paying the car off later )the other half I would like to be invest into something that's gonna work for itself due to the fact that I'm not strong in that area if anyone could point me into the direction to learn the ways a famous investor even a article , or even a book, would really appreciate anyone's advice because I'm a teenage kid living in a house full of females , and no father figure to guide me through this . Once again thanks for reading and hopefully you guys could help a youngin out .

Better yet. Why not just pay cash for a car and not have a car payment? Why add debt. Move into a nicer place with the saved money and eat good fixins every night. If you do your research, you will find used cars that will outlast new cars if you are patient.

Hey man for your second topic, I just wanna say if you want to invest in something, invest in yourself bro.

Save your money. Put it in the bank and never touch it. Make a plan for yourself - go to college, get a job in a relevant field. Find something that makes you happy.

If you want that money to be put to good use, make sure it's to make yourself better.

Well I financed a car at a young age with my mom as a co-signer paid my car on my own on time comfortable for over a year, I worry about other things not the average 19 year old thinks how I'm gonna own a house in the future how I can refine my credit so thats the main reason I'm looking into financing , and if I'm planning on paying off a car by the time I'm done I want it to still have value and still be new, & as cool as it sounds to move out, im comfortable where Iam right now financially wouldn't want to change that for now .

Really positive post man thanks , it would be so tempting to not touch that money knowing me I would spend it little by little & I haven't exactly found my passion besides basketball and the Orlando Magic since I'm a resident I've actually been looking into working for the Orlando Magic this upcoming season as customer service specialist and hopefully moving up from the opportunity are endless I just need my step inside . Thank you both so much for the replies.

You need to start listening to Mike Rowe asap. GO TO WORK! There is no short cuts. And by the way buying a used BMW is not a wise decision. All the expensive German brands should be leased brand new, if you can't afford that then take a look at that new Accord Sport it's pretty sweet 8-)

As far as building your credit, use some of that cash as collateral on a secured loan. Find a credit card that will approve your credit score (Fico Forums) that has an introductory no interest period, use this to pay all your normal monthly expenses you would normally use your debit for then pay it off after each statement, do this for 3-5 months then apply for another card with similar terms. Don't apply for too much credit though and keep those balances paid off. Chase Freedom and Citi Simplicity are a couple good cards with no interest for 15-21 months and can earn you cash back with other incentives. Before you buy your car go to a credit union to see what interest rate and dollar amount they will give you. Best time to shop for a car is the last few days of the month, email multiple dealers what you are looking for and have them outbid each other, and don't ever tell the dealer what payment you can handle, always negotiate purchase price. DON'T BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!

btw my best friend has a 2013 328i coupe that he leased and has had many issues with it (phantom check engine light) he is turning it back in in May and because he is way over on miles (about 20k lol) he was considering buying it but now because the car has a major recall concerning the airbags BMW is telling him they won't sell it to him, so he is screwed and he's gonna have to negotiate it into his next car deal somehow. My mom actually has a 2014 is250 F sport and it is friggin cool af, gorgeous car and very cool interior, but it's slow and has already been replace by the is200t, the 2.5L v6 has carbon issues because of it's small displacement and direct injection, she leased it so no big deal.

Got married about a month ago and then spent about 3 weeks in Japan for my honeymoon :) Was pretty awesome. I think i could live in Japan pretty easily, such a clean place, and the people are so friendly and trusting. Back to work this week though which has really sucked.

If you haven't watched the show "how to get away with murder", I'd suggest you do so. It's great

Just saying. If you are living with your parents, you may have prolonged your stay.

But me, I am very conservative since I emancipated myself at 16 and started paying my own rent. I worked 6 days a week my senior year of high school. I slept in school, lol. Thus, I just learned to be cheap the hard way because I had to. I got pretty good at working on cars and being patient in finding deals. I may take six months when shopping for a car to find the perfect deal.

The smart way to shop for a car is to buy the last year in a series model or last year an engine is made. Because, you get the best version of that car or engine with all recalls and development established. That type of car will give you little to no problems. I have paid less than $1,500 in repairs in the last 20 years.

But, if you are looking for an investment, purchase Magic season tickets next season. I hear they will have a winner then. If not, you can scalp them for profit. WIn Win!

Nice honeymoon! I can't believe I'm almost 3 years after the wedding and having 5-months old baby son. It sweetens this poor season for me

That's not always the case, and then when you buy that 2016 model and the 2017 is all new with a handful of new tech and features and they have only raised the MSRP $200 your resale value takes a hit and you'll regret not waiting. you got that 36k mile powertrain warranty from the factory for a reason. Best thing to do is to buy the "mid-cycle refresh" year (Like iPhone S), most car companies redesign their models every 4-6 years and the 3rd or 4th year gets a cosmetic facelift and new tech but usually the drivetrain and chassis stays the same. And nowadays companies are keeping proven drivetrains in service over many generations of models with very little improvements.

OP, take a look at the Acura TSX if you want a luxury car, while not as prestigious a badge as a bimmer they can be had under $20k and have a proven drivetrain (from the Acura RSX type S) that has been in service for awhile. Or how about a G37? much lower operating costs than the Germans and that V6 is a version of the same motor that is in most of Infinity/Nissan's cars.

My GF's dad is leasing a Lexus is350 F Sport and man that is a beautiful car. I didn't think it was anything special until you see it in person and experience the drive.

Benzo, like TreasureCoast said, with those luxury brands unless you have a bunch of disposable income for the potential repairs on those German vehicles, you should highly consider leasing them.

The new Accord is definitely a nice looking car, the interior looks like something you would see in a BMW. My only gripe with that car is its a FWD car and I prefer RWD, more fun.

No but I hear it's good...it's on my backlog of shows to watch.

On another note, Game of Thrones is by far the best show on TV. I will be getting a subscription to HBO Go for the next season.
