Do you think Paul Millsap now regrets not coming to Orlando?

We offered him 4yrs 80m and he decided to take less money to stay with Atlanta. Orlando's future at this moment in time looks to be way brighter than the change ATL's about to experience...

Paul Millsap on ORL: "I was their first priority, and everything about their team was looking good at the time." (Via Orlando Sentinel)

Now theres a chance his team mate Horford jumps all over what Millsap should have.
Do you think he now regrets not coming to Central Florida?

At this point, no. The hawks were still significantly better than us even if their season ended in disappointment. He took less years, but that was probably what he wanted... he can opt out next summer and get an even fatter contract when the cap is at an all time high. Maybe in the future if the hawks blow it up and regress, he gets hurt or plays poorly thus hurting his value, doesn't find an ideal situation on his next contract, or we end up rising quickly in the next couple years...

I honestly think he might. I think they lose bazemore and Horford this offseason. Korvers on the wrong side of 30. I think Teague gets moved this offseason too. I think Atlanta is on the brink of a rebuild. We have a young solid core with a top 10 coach who should be in the playoffs for years to come. I would have to think he does

I did say this last summer If he had any brain he would join us.
we are team on the rise while his was on top(kinda near :D) but with each year they will only get worse and on the wrong side of the 30 like someone said

In other words I think we all can agree if he choose us he would be in a better situation longterm he choose short term solution
or he just really love ATL

he may not regrtet it yet but he will soon

It's not like he's stuck in ATL for the rest of his career. He'll be a free agent next summer and will still make his money unless he drops off a ton or gets injured next season. He could end up on a team with a brighter future than ours next summer. Who knows, maybe he still ends up in Orlando on a 2 year deal...

I'll bite.

Even though we are trending up and ATL is trending down, both teams are still equal distance from contending, IMO. Its not like we lit up the NBA in 15-16 and were only missing that one piece.

So no, I do not think he regrets his decision.

this is a good question and honestly I think he probably will.

Atlanta will not be the same team if Horford leaves and Teague signs elseware in a year(or if he's traded).

The rest of their roster is either over the hill or just not good enough to make for a contending team.

When Teague leaves, Millsap will be left with Shroeder essentially and whoever they can sign in free agency, more uncertainty than the situation he would have in Orlando.

Highly doubt he regrets his decision. Especially since he'll cash out next summer and get a huge deal while still making the playoffs.

I'll say yes. But only because the Hawks team probably won't look the same. We have a coach that everyone seems to like now as well.

Why would he care? This team still won't be a legit contender until 2-3 years from now when he's completely out of his prime.

He'd have better luck on another team.

Doubt it. Say he did join, we'd be a first round out like the Hawks. He'd have to wait a couple seasons til we were even contenders. It was comfortable for him to stay with the Hawks and I doubt he regrets it. After this contract he'll probably join a super team for a chance at a ring. He's 31.

I have no regrets about him declining us. It's Aaron Gordon's world and we're just living in it. Ha ha.

Dude is about to make $20M this coming year, then can opt out and make even more. Doubt he regrets his decision. And he likely kept his wife happy by staying in ATL. Happy wife, happy life.

A. Just for reference. We are retaining Horford if he wants to come back. He thinks he can win here. He is strongly leaning towards resigning and we are looking for numerous ways to improve the team with him as the centerpiece.

B. The OP is disingenuous. This was stated when we were going into Orlando 16-12 on December 10th 2015. You guys were 15-11 ahead of us in the standings. We had a new starter who had a tough time fitting into the lineup and you guys had Harris, Evan F and Vucecic going at a very high level. Clearly, we changed up our defense and figured it out finishing 2nd in the NBA in defense. You guys were below average as expected and made some trades during the ASB.

I like Vogel's tone. We are going to win. Trying to convince not just FA's to come to Orlando but that they are going to win. They are trying to win more and working towards that as well just as all other 29 teams in the NBA. Good luck but if your hopes are tied to Horford or Millsap, it might be time to move to another target. Horford is a cornerstone piece for us. Millsap is a valued piece that we want to build with.

In response to your part B.. Even if the quote was taken from later on that doesn't mean he didn't feel that way before during the summer of free agency.

He stayed in Atlanta because he felt he had a better chance of winning. IMO Atlanta is by far on the back end of their opportunity to win.

It was disingenuous. It was when you were ahead in the standings and we struggling to find an identity and you were catching teams off guard till teams figured your team out. He was in very right to say that at the time. If this thread was upped from that time period, it would make more sense to say well, Paul felt this way in December. But to post it as if it's a recent statement is a dishonest.

Well, of course he had a better chance of winning. We won 60 games last year and 48 this year. We are improving and he just made his first defensive team and received a lot of votes for All NBA. He made a great decision. Why was this statement upped was purely a shot at the Atlanta organization and low key a shot at their base of supporters. To say otherwise would be running with a false narrative.

Just to get your side of things. Are you guys just going for a win now approach? The way I see it Horford, Millsap, are in there thirtys && Korver in his mid thirtys those are three of your core guys. I would see that as risky to do considering I don't see you guys being legitimate title contenders. Who are you banking on for your long term future, Mike scott, Schroeder? I think Horford has better options (not to say Orlando is).

Oh yeah, I'm sure he regrets staying on a team that made the playoffs the past two seasons, getting the same amount of money per year and the flexibility to opt out and get one more big deal after next season. Whereas the alternative would be coming to a lottery team that had a coach quit due to clashing with the front office. I don't think he ever considered Orlando, but instead used the Magic as leverage to get the deal he wanted in Atlanta. I don't blame him for that, I'd do the same thing.

I think you're looking too far into that quote. Not really a big deal.

Korver finished with the 3rd best +/- in the East this season and that was without an off-season and he struggle in the 1st half of the season to get into form.

Sap has an ageless game. He excels at face-ups, stretching the court, trying to abuse mismatches, being an excellent freelance defender which is possible due to Al's defensive abilities and he has very high BBIQ.

Horford game is very ageless. He is an exceptionally fundamentally sound player. Has exceptional BBIQ and does an excellent job in space which gives players around him more leeway defensively similar to what Tim Duncan provides for the Spurs. He moves his feel exceptionally well can even even defend PG's at times. He does a great job and protecting the paint although he could improve at protecting the rim defensively. His range, PnR, PnP, mid range shot, screens and movement are tops in the league for his position and he's the best passing center in the NBA by a country mile. He provides a lot of positives for us which is due to his versatility. For common fans who don't know much which is a majority of the fans on all of this fansites, they will look at the raw stats and the wow factor but Horford has what's called the winning factor which is the wow factor for coaches, GM's etc. We know that and he is our cornerstone. 5 years and max he will get if he wants it. He's worth it. Now, you can go to the Hawks board and see silly **** like "Hassan Whiteside" and "Dwight Howard" but you must remember, our fans like most are surface based, they don't know **** about Basketball in a serious conversation.

So to answer your question. Yes, we will build around Kyle, Al and Paul. Just like we will build around Jeff and Dennis unless a trade of value to "us" not to you but to "us" (the Hawks organization) is on the table. Our belief in Atlanta is everyone can develop and become a good player if you put the work into it and learn to fit the system regardless of draft position, age, etc. For someone like you, you might say, well, potential is based on age and perceived talent but the Kings is loaded with perceived talent and they are still below average. The Utah Jazz say they got 5 potential franchise players and they been thinking that for years and they are still average. At some point, reality must come in and say, maybe, we are not as good as we would like to think we are.

It's great to show flashes but flashes mean nothing if you can't translate that for 48 minutes on a nightly basis.
