Extending Ibaka with the Cap Space

I don't believe I have seen this discussed but thought it warranted its own thread.
Why don't the Magic just extend Ibaka with some of the Cap Space we have this year? Since he is coming off the third year of his extension, the Magic could renegotiate his contract for up to three additional years after this one and book some of the salary this year since they have cap space. OKC did this a while back with Nick Collison (Not sure if Rob was working for them at the time).
His Cap hold is going to be about $19 million next year so why not bump up his contract this year and he can take less money over the remaining years, giving him his money and giving us security and flexibility.
Thoughts?

Thoughts: What is 1 real reason Ibaka would entertain the idea of extending?

Think about it from Ibaka's point of view and you'll have your answer.

I dont see him signing one but as an answer to the quoted...
Guaranteed money? I mean sure he can maybe sign for more next year if he has a better season, but what if he sucks or gets injured?
Personally I do not think anyone will give Ibaka max next season, maybe $22 million, why not sign for that much now?

Well after reading some online.... you can only extend a vet for current salary + 7.5%, so that is not happening

So...there is no reason?

Now days anyone who is even decent is getting the max, i mean hell Bazemore is going to get a max deal. Good player, but is he really a 20m a year guy?

I think that is this year, because in reality they will be a max player for only 1 year of the contract duration, doubt their would be that many max contracts next year

We're going to have to max him next year to keep him. He knows he'd lose a lot of money getting extended right now.

Next year the cap is suppose to jump as much as it did this year, i see even MORE max deals next year

Especially since there are several more people that deserve one...in addition to the crop like this year.

Its not so much the money but the % of the money, last year players like tobias would get a max contract only because it was 25% of cap for first year and then it basically becomes very cheap..... players who sign next year for 25% or 30% will always be 25%-30% of the cap, unless it continues increasing.

He'll resign next summer, after we make the playoffs this season.
