Per hoopshype.com....Chris Haynes: According to sources, a trade that’s been pondered in recent days featured Hawks forward Paul Millsap and collection of picks owned by Suns.

Should Orlando go after Paul Millsap? If so what do they offer?

I'd rather keep the assets and go after him next summer as a fall back in case we can't retain Serge

Hell yes. Give up 2 picks and Watson (or Napier, or both) for him.

Our team would be beastly. Top 4 in the east.

Millsap is top 20 player in league he won't be cheap. I don't see how we can get him wihout giving ATL Vucevic +Gordon + Lakers 1st.

Hmmm... how would our lineups work? Can we add more minutes to the game so they all get their fair share of minutes? Front court would be killer, though.

C: Vuc, Ibaka, Zimmerman
PF: Ibaka, Millsap, Gordon, Green
SF: Gordon, Hezonja, Fournier, Green

We'd have to make a trade, right?

No, because he will opt out next summer at 31 and want a big, juicy expensive 4 year contract, when Ibaka is looking for a contract too.

So they just signed D12 and will trade Millsap for nothing? Makes no sense to me if they are not keeping Al Horford which seems the case.

However, if they have a deal in place to keep Horford, it would make sense to trade Millsap for draft picks (cheap players), because they would have a very good frontcourt rotation consisting of D12, Horford and Splitter.

Also, keep in mind that teams prefer to trade players to opposite conferences.

I don't see a reason to do this; at this point the front court is set for years to come between Vuc, Ibaka, AG, and Hezonja (assuming they all mesh of course).

Milsap's a fine player but he's not going to be happy with coming off the bench; he'd be blocking AG's time, and frankly he's not getting any younger. We already traded for a much better version of Paul Milsap (IMHO).

I think the Hawks have a problem. f they bring back Horford they've *got* to trade Milsap, so they're not going to get full value.

Worse, he'll be 32... turns 33 in the first year of his next deal, gross.

ATL saw us give up dipo and a lottery pick for ibaka with one year left... are you willing to give up assets like that again for an expiring Millsap?

I'd be all about this if it comes at the right price. There's definitely a fervor to win at all costs next season. Even if it is for just 1 season, I'd do it to get the playoffs and make some noise. He'd be a perfect fit and complement the team well. And I'd be super excited to watch Payton/Fournier/Gordon/Millsap/Ibaka lineups for 82 games. The versatility on the team would be insane. Again, if it's merely a salary dump, we should pounce on that. If they want more valuable assets, then yeah, we can remain patient.

Why? we have our starting Pf in Ibaka so milsap would be somewhat redundant. He may be a better scorer than Ibaka(thought not by much) but Ibaka is the better defender which is what we need more next to Vuc. No thanks as I doubt they give him up for just two picks(napier doesn't bring much value). It would likely cost us a lot more like Vuc or Payton and maybe both. It would be something similar to what we gave up for Ibaka and I just would not do that for another PF.

Do you really think Atlanta would except that?

No thanks. Our dynamic has changed drastically since we pursued him last year.

Unfortunately he no longer fits:
- we're set in the front court
- he'll be too old to give a max deal to come next summer
- the Hawks wouldn't trade within division anyway
- we wouldn't surrender the draft assets they'd be looking for (as they don't want to take on further salary)

It's a shame as I really like Millsap and think he would have been great last season but the ship has sailed. To add if I was the Hawks GM, I'd be quite happy to say thank you and goodbye to Al Horford. I think a Millsap / Howard front court is a better fit than a Horford / Howard one.

I like Millsap, but with the addition of Ibaka and Biyombo to the front court, and Vucevic on a bargain contract by today's free agency numbers, I don't think it is a move we should make. If we are making a trade we need to find an upgrade at PG, or perhaps even at SF if someone is available.
