Magic Rescind Qualifying Offer To Dwayne Dedmon

Post#1 » by Howard Mass » Mon Jul 4, 2016 8:35 pm

The Magic have rescinded their Qualifying Offer to Dwayne Dedmon making him an unrestricted free agent.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/242676/Magic-Rescind-Qualifying-Offer-To-Dewayne-Dedmon

This is no surprise and even before Biyombo was signed, he was not expected to be back.

I was hopeful that The Magic could sign and trade him for a second round pick swap like they did Kyle O'Quinn but I guess is they just couldn't find a scenario to do that.

Nothing but the best to Dwayne and thanks for everything.

I was thinking the same, but there's a bit of a log jam in the front court. We just invested 72 mil so that bismack can be the first off the bench and not to mention Zimmerman and Gordon get time at the 4

I like him, great 3rd big, would have been nice to keep him but playing time was scarce to begin with and after this offseason.... best of luck!

I think he will get a good offer elsewhere and soon.

Golden state should be jumping all over this. A cheaper option than Ezeli.

Good luck my dude. I too was hoping we would retain him but, after signing BB play time would have been scarce.

Man... good luck. Gs just unloaded Bogut so he probably can get a spot there.

In today's NBA he's worth 6 mill a year and will probably be had for half of that. I have to believe this was considered before hand....at least I hope so.

Golden state would be a great place for him if no one else is offering more than the minimum. But I gotta think he'll get a little more, and at this stage in his life and career he'll need to follow the money and not the ring.

Looks like Toronto's after Dedmon.
What would you guys say is the big differences between Biyombo and Dedmon? And how's his defense and rebounding?

Posted in the thread on your forum but...

Biyombo looks like he can cover more ground, and positions. Both could stand to be more aware on defense but Biyombo has much more of a natural feel, but if Dedmon works hard on that part of his game he would be great. I think Biyombo's defense is much more translatable at this point. Dedmon is good against certain centers and lineups, whereas he struggles badly against others.

Rebounding is solid, nothing special but not bad.

Offensively I think he has more potential. Decent FT shooter, has a lil jumper, but just terrible at catching the ball. He's a bit harder to put in different lineups than Biyombo but hes good at P&R (with lobs).

I think he's a good get for somebody wanting a backup or 3rd C.

Watching Dedmon play is like watching someone try to drink from a can of soda immediately after shaking it. He's all energy and all over the place. I'd say the biggest difference is Biyombo can defend more without fouling. Dedmon is more of an aggressive enforcer type defender. I believe he's always had a really good rebounding rate. He's got hands of stone, but if he's got the lane for a driving dunk or oop look out. Expect dunks, rebounds and blocks with some foul trouble and boneheaded plays mixed in.

Man, I was hoping we had enough room to keep him :( I love Dedmon and his energy. Felt he could have been a Vogel guy. But best of luck D! We wont forget that intensity.

Always loved Dedmons fire for the game and his energy. Plays like a guy that's happy to be on the floor.

Hardworkers are great to have. Wherever he goes he will fit in perfectly. Good luck!
