Dont Panic

A lot of people on here panicin after poor preaseason and 1st game.

Reason not to panic are:
(1) We finally have a GREAT coach. Big Frank WILL ask for changes to roster if in Jan we haven't pulled it together. We have assets to move to make a trade. Vuc, Payton and Mario are top of my list to go. I like Payton a lot but not sure hes worth a big re sign contract.

(2) We have Bis to come back.Guys a beast and will improve defence.

(3) AG is just warming up. Hoping he will get more touches and become a All Star in next few years

Its still work in progress but having Vogel at the helm is Massive for us. He respected around the league and players want to play for him.

This was opening night, and we looked terrible against a bad Miami team. There is reason to panic...

When the team pivoted during the offseason, many questioned what the magic were doing. We haven't seen even anything that shows that this team is headed in the right direction. Honestly, there is not one person on this team that I think we can build a contender around. Elf can't shoot, AG will probably peak as a 3rd player on a championship team, and Vuc can't defend.

Some of what happened in the draft is bad luck, but then I look at Elf. They spent so much time evaluating him and convinced he'd be the PG of the future. But in all that time evaluating, they never realized that he couldn't shoot. In today's NBA that is a must and is not something that can be taught. There's a reason Shaq and Dwight still can't make free throws. You either have the shooting touch or you don't.

I've been following the Magic for over 20 years, and I think this is the most down on a team that I can remember.

Ya I do, going into that year we expected to be decent. But, it was one bad year and we ended up with Dwight, and then we started trending back upwards. This is the 5th season post Dwight, and we actually may be worse than when we initially traded him.

Lol this board was panicking after game 1 of the preseason. I don't think you can expect them not to now. I like this teams makeup and I say we get Biyombo back and see where we really stand. I think Elf and Ag are going to have really good years. Evan and Ibaka will rarely struggle like they did the other night. I don't think frank will stand for the effort that was given last night. I've got faith that he can pull this thing together. I expected to struggle in the early parts of the season.

I think we can win around 40 games and content for 8th spot, however, something is not right with how all the players fit on this team, maybe not enough shooting? Hopefully Mario can breakout.

I trust Frank to see what works and what doesn't and adjust accordingly. I expected us to start the season slow, especially without Biyombo, but I've said the team will get better as the season progresses. I think we'll see Gordon start to take a more prominent role in the offense.

Come on, don't freak out, it doesn't matter it's just preseason.
Oh wait, it's not.

Let's be patient until april, and if the team does not show something, than we're free to be realistic about this f*** squad.

I was hoping the defense would be a little further along at this point, if its not significantly improved by 15 games in or so then its time to worry...we already knew this team would struggle to score in the half court

Damn, we signed 2 players from the Congo and we don't get to be the refugee team?

Last night was very rough and unacceptable.

However, it is a long season and hopefully that will lite a fire under this team although I think a trade will be needed to help offensively.

I agree with the sentiment.

Last night was ugly as hell, no doubt about it. But at the end of the day, two-thirds of our roster weren't on the team last year, and we have a new coach trying to introduce his own system. AG, Elf and Fournier have had a different coach in each season of their tenures with the Magic (four coaches in three years if you include Borrego's extended run as interim coach). We're not going to be a finished article right off the bat, and there are going to be some ugly games for this team, especially early on.

At the end of the day, look at the Lebron super teams in Miami and Cleveland - the Heat started 9-8 in year 1, and the Cavs 19-20. Both teams ended up making the Finals. Hell, the KD Warriors just got blown out by 29 points on their home court. Now obviously we are not a contending team, but there is talent on this roster and there is a coach with the ability to bring it out. But it's going to take a little time, and patience.

While I'm not raining pessimism right now, I find this every bit as tiring. Nobody can really lay claim to what is rational until time reveals the truth. I mean, I'm sure there were folks mocking the panic-stricken on the Titanic as well.

I am not panicking, but then I don't expect much from this season's team to begin with. Not enough talent and the players we have don't fit particularly well together. We may scrape into the playoffs, but that's the maximum IMO, and even that would be quite tough.

It isn't even about ability, it is about effort and having the desire to win. Did you see a single member of the Magic in last night's game that looked like they even cared about basketball after half-time?
