This is a question for after the trade deadline I think, so much hinges on draft position and who we trade. Will defiantly complete then though, want to now!

This is 100% true, we dont now if Henningan is willing to make a big ( panic ) move to save his job and screw things up even further. I just hope we try to develop Payton till the end of the season and then evaluate his service. IF he becomes consistent and puts up good numbers then stick with him if not then look to trade him at the draft. Also i would love us to not pay Ibaka 30 milion, either trade him now ( look axl post) or resign him for a right price. So many questions unanswered so for now we have to wait until trade deadline and see what happens.

Step 1. Fire Hennigan
Step 2. Trade Serge for picks/prospects. Trade Augustine and/or Biyombo for expirings
Step 3. Move Fournier to the sixth man role.Play the youngns. Run the offense through AG and EP.

you start by trading Ibaka before the deadline and offseason.

I can tell you the core and how I would like to look and how I want to look like going into the summer and watch the players around it depending on trade, free agency, and drafting..
Payton/
Hezonja/
Gordon/
?/?
?/?
We need to make a decision on our front court. I sway all the time, I love Vucevic off the bench, I would also like to see what value he has and trade him. I also would like to start Biyombo and see him grow, I would also like to see what value he has at the deadline for a contender/playoff team. This leads to my ideal being
Portlands sends: CJ McCollum + Evan Turner/Harkless + Allen Crabbe
Orlando sends: Nikola Vucevic/Bizmack Biyombo (ideally Vucevic) + Evan Fournier + DJ Augustine
- Portland get a center of their choice (scoring and rebounding or defensive), a replacement for McCollum with similar pers, and a backup point guard as well as dumping Crabbe and Turners/Harkless's contract
- I would then hope to get a point guard in the draft out of the top 5 in it
- Resign Ibaka for 4 years 90M
- Waive CJ Watson
Payton/1st round pick
McCollum/Hezonja/Crabbe
Gordon/Turner
Ibaka/FA
Biyombo/FA
I'd be happy with those 9 players moving forward, Turner would provide good scoring off the bench, hopefully with Hezonja playing and adding to the bench to

If we drafted a rookie in the late lottery, do you think that rook would push Fournier to the 6th man role?

This is tough, mostly because improving the team relies heavily on the development and emergence of Payton and AG. I think both will be much more consistent next season. Not allstar level, but capable of averaging 15-17ppg for the season.
Whether that happens or not depends on the balance of the team. For example, can Fournier become less of a playmaker and more of an off the ball shooter like Redick, and can he improve his defense? I've not hidden the fact that I think Meeks fits better with our starting unit because he allows (forces?) Payton and AG to assert themselves more on games. Then again, I'm unsure if Payton can fit well with any other ball dominant playmaker or not.
First and foremost, Vogel needs to figure out why these guys aren't playing defense. That's our biggest issue. The team seems to have the capability of finding offense with the guys we've got, but they can't/won't defend well enough to make that competitive.
In terms of moving players, I don't think Fournier or Biyombo go anywhere. This team will develop a bad reputation if they sign/extend players only to ship them out within a season - especially if they're getting any kind of discounts to get them to stick around (I'm talking Harris/Fournier, not Biyombo). It wouldn't look good to agents and prospective FAs.
I'm gonna have to ride out the season and see what the team's looking like at the end before being able to form any kind of hypothetical plans about the future.

So no trades huh,
Tank for a top 5 pick, draft Josh Jackson. Sign Jared Sullinger.
Payton/DJ/M Morris(2nd rd pick)
Jackson/Fournier/Meeks
AG/Hezonja
Ibaka/Sullinger
Vucevic/Biz/Zimm

I love the improvement we are slowly seeing from AG, but it just might not ever happen to the level we want.
Josh Jackson is regularly compared to Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler and *
ding, ding ding* Paul George.
I want to tank HARD HARD HARD! to get this kid.
There are no guarantees in the draft. We have learned that the hard way recently, I know. But if you take trades off the table then by looking at this free agency class I just don't see another remotely realistic option.

You forgot Tracy McGrady, I've read some give that comparison.

He doesn't have the shooting (yet) for that comparison.
None of the three guys I listed are lethal scorers on T-Mac's level (but how many are?). Those guys were all super athletic defensive players who developed reliable offensive games. I don't see Jackson reaching T-Mac's level on offense, but you can see that he won't struggle to be a 20 ppg player at the next level. Wiggins might be another comparison.

What I'd like to see the team do is.
1. Fire Hennigan
2. Let Ibaka walk in the offseason
3. Trade Fournier at the deadline for picks or young assets. Maybe add Vucevic to a deal for some kind of impact player.
4. Improve draft position by playing the young guys, getting them experience in the process.
5 Use cap space on better talent than last season.

Its a REALLY tough question...
I feel if they're going for win now moves... They'll most likely dangle Aaron Gordon/Hezonja and a future pick out for Jimmy Butler and Paul George over the deadline (Which is possible).
If they strike out on in grabbing a star before the deadline they'll most likely move Ibaka and maybe one of Vucevic or Biyombo for a young prospect or picks.
Wish they had the ability to have the option to make this happen in the offseason (Due to a probable high draft pick in a deep draft)... but with Ibaka being unrestricted and probably yielding huge offers, its going to be difficult to have things go the Magic's way this off season.

You wouldn't rather trade Ibaka? What's the benefit in letting him walk?

I'm not sure we could net difference makers for Ibaka mid season. Just a feeling. Having him off the cap may be more beneficial. If we can find a trade for him that's worth something I'm all for it.

TANK HARD! Get a top 7 pick and go after Jrue Holiday and resign Ibaka
As far as right now.. trade Meeks for expiring+2nd and same goes for Jeff Green if anyone is that dumb. Use those two seconds to possibly move up in the draft for an early 2nd or late first.

No. the SG position is thin in this draft. I would rather address that position in FA. I would like a 3 and D player that has a good bbiq. I would try and Flip Vuc Mario and for Middleton and Thon . Go after Monroe in the summer. Draft a wing or C.
Let's say we tank the rest of the year and end up drafting in the 6-8 range. Too low to really land a top tier PG but with in striking distance of a top tier prospect. The way if have it
Tier 1
1.Fultz
2.Jackson
3.Ball
4.Smith jr
5.Monk
6.Tatum
Tier 2
7.Giles
8.Ntlikina
9.Issac
Tier 3
10.Foxx
11.Leaf
12.OG
13.Bridges
14.Rabb/Patton
If EP continues his upward trajection I'm fine with him being our lead guard. Im also probably in the minority but I like AG at the 3. He's shown real promise and his defense has been outstanding.
Rim protection is still a major problem tho. I would like to get a guy who can protect the rim as well as space the floor. Harry Giles is that guy. He's slipped in the rankings due to his injury concerns. Giles is the ultimate boom or bust pick but if we hit he could be the star player we've been craving for.

I start a reshape at the deadline.
If Serge will not give you a commitment then he must be traded. CANNOT lose him for nothing. Also I don't think he's a max player, which is what it will take to keep him.
Can see him being the most sought after player at the TDL......kings, raptors, celtics, maybe even houston and other contenders who need a big that can defend the rim and stretch the floor.
Jodie Meeks should generate some interest from teams in need of 3 point shooting.
Vooch or Biz has to go. Can't spend this much money at the center position and not have an elite player. Vooch could net a good return, Biz would be a salary dump.
Mario MUST play 30 mpg once we start selling the magic have to find out what he can do.
Aaron MUST play the 4 mostly, we should be trying to mold him into Blake Griffin NOT Paul George. His skill set is more in line with BG.
Hopefully get a top 5 pick by selling off our vets in a loaded draft, and hope we can also land a mid 1st from one of our trades.
tired of the magic not maximizing the value of their assets, hennigan has given away so much talent for nothing, it's unacceptable to continue that trend. this team is NOT good, accept it and move forward

To add: it really depends if GM Hennigan leads the roster in the off-season or not. If he remains, I continue to expect "patience." Whereas a new GM will/must blow up the roster as that is why said individual will have been hired.

With Hennigan, I expect Ibaka to be resigned and for Orlando's core to be Payton/Fournier/Gordon(as PF)/Ibaka(as C). Ibaka is slowing down and cannot guard guards. Gordon at PF simply is not working. In this Orlando would most profit from a tier-1 offensive SF.
With a new GM, anything goes. I see no core at all.
