So now that the DeVos family is part of the Trump Administration

Post#1 » by AmazinMUSIC » Wed Jan 18, 2017 6:17 pm

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/answer-sheet/wp/2017/01/18/six-astonishing-things-betsy-devos-said-and-refused-to-say-at-her-confirmation-hearing/?tid=hybrid_collaborative_1_na&utm_term=.c69b4056b2a6

So now that Betsy DeVos can potentially become the education secretary, is it wrong to question your fandom of a team if you're diametrically opposed to most of the ownership's political views? Is it hypocritical to be a fan and support this team or should you just look at ownership as the money behind the team and nothing else?

Do the political views of ownership effect free agent signings? I'm assuming, but I would suppose most of the league is on the opposite side of the political spectrum.

It's something I never thought about until recently and now I have these thoughts in my head. I don't believe I ever created a thread on here, so I hope this is ok to post.

Why would anyone give a damn about the political views of the daughter-in-law of the owner of the team they are a fan of?

It's not like Rich DeVos views weren't well known until now, so this changes nothing.

Patriots Coach and Brady were very much supportive of Trump. Do you think Boston fans should stop rooting for the Patriots. I am sure many people in the Magic organization are diehard liberals including fans. There is no reason to stop supporting the team because of a few peoples views. Extreme liberalism or conservatism is more of a cult disease than anything else. If people cannot objectively view things then they are probably puppets.

I'm not particularly fond of Trump or Devos but if I refused to follow a team because I disagreed with the political views or character of a team's owner/coach/players, then I would literally not have a team to root for.

I couldn't care less about the political views of owners in the league, I'm actually a conservative and like Mark Cuban who is a Liberal. I don't think that should matter.

Yes I only watch my favorite team's games because of its ownership's political views.

We should not like people who think differently than us.

Not liking people who disagree with me isn't the right way to view it. It is more along the lines of having pity for stupid people.

But to stay on topic, I fully agree with most of the people here. Why should this matter at all? Go and look throughout each and every thread on this board. Clearly there is distaste and even hate for players, coaches, GMs and all levels of management. Yet fan loyalty remains. Why would it be any different for the owner?

Lol I appreciate some of the condescending replies. It was an honest question I have never previously thought about.

Nobody has answered if they think it effects free agency or if it was possibly a reason why some players wanted to leave in the past?

This subject of this post is a big neon sign as to what's wrong with this country currently. I'm not bashing the person who started it, it's simply a reflection of the times we live in.

Political, racial and other divisive issues have infected every level of American society the last 10 years. You can't watch sport, movies, listen to music, or drive down the street without political agendas being shoved down our throats and I think over time it's just made us all unable to see the other side of the equation you stand on. As for the subject. I have no issues with how the Devos family chooses to believe, nor Mark Cuban who'd be on the opposite viewpoint. The team on the floor succeeding is an escape from all that rhetoric.

This isn't Donald Sterling.

If Donald Trump himself purchased the Orlando Magic we could have this talk given the comments he made during his campaign. Whether you agree with them or not, we know what most celebrities and minority athletes think of Trump. So I understand why you might ask this question.

But I can't possibly believe that any of these players are paying an ounce of attention to Trumps appointees. They look at the figurehead at the top and nothing more... like most of America.

So this will have no impact on free agency.

Yeah man.... i'm sure basketball players are really going to go out on a limb to protest betsy freaking devos.

Guess I missed the news that lebron and his teammates have demanded trades due to dan gilbert's political affiliations....

Think the Spurs are worried about their image after the Holts donated to trump multiple times throughout the year...

If you let the political affiliation of someone who is not even involved in Bball operations affect your fandom for a team/sports, you my friend need to grow up.

The Presidency has been decided. Accept it and move on with your life.
