Biyombo for 17 million or Dedmon for 2.9 million?

I saw these tweets on Twitter and I got incredibly sad. The entire thread of tweets is accurate honestly.
Was this a failure by Rob Hennigan?

The thing is though, Dedmon is in the best situation for him to succeed, playing in San Antonio. Biyombo is in perhaps the worst situation for him to succeed, playing for our disfunctional team that magnifies all of his weaknesses. So the numbers aren't really all that black and white.
It's true that they play the same role and that Dedmon is a lot cheaper. I think Biyombo is better at that role, but is he $14 million better? I think he could be worth the higher price tag if we were a better team. Right this second it obviously looks difficult to justify.

They are similar in rebounding and rim protection. BB is better out on the perimeter, DD is better as a post defender. DD is better on offense with better hands, better jumper, better free throws and a better PnR guy. DD is also a solid 7 footer and very athletic.
Yea, it was a decent sized mistake.

I pointed this out in another thread and it got shot down. I didn't need chad evans to tell me that this was a massive mistake. People need to stop trying to spin it. He panicked.

Lol. Dedmon can't guard the post, I bet Chris Paul could back him down. He's got good hops because he's so thin but he can't physically guard at the 5 for any extended time.

Biz is better than Deds, but hennigan and vogel overestimated his game by thinking he could come in and start so soon on this team. Should have not rushed it and declared Vuc the starter for the season. Instead they decided to create an awkward situation and it just got worse once the season started. Completely mishandled this whole 3-big situation. Biz is just another developing player. As a backup he's a huge overpay... he still has the potential to be a good starter even for us, but we'll probably need to revisit this midway through his contract.

Dedmon probably wouldn't have signed with us for 3 mln. Most likely he wanted to play for a team where he'd have more of a chance to shine and then cash out next summer (the second year of his contract is a player option which he'll probably decline) after improving his reputation in the league. Biyombo did the same last summer and it worked like a charm for him.

Expect those numbers to rise for DD now that Pau is out for a while with his hand injury yesterday. I get to watch him a lot since I live in San Antonio and he continues to improve with each passing game. While he probably wouldn't have signed the cheap rate the Spurs got him for, he still had great value for us and the team really seemed to like him.

Dedmon has a high PF rate. Needed increases in his minutes will cause problems for the Spurs as there will be many quarters were he gets 2-fouls per.

Yes he still does have a penchant for committing those unnecessary fouls. Gonna be interesting to watch to see if he can adjust now that more minutes are coming his way. The Spurs know how to adjust and adapt.

Never understood how Skiles couldn't use him when we needed rim protection last year. It was one of the more frustrating things about that team.

The good part about BB contract is that it's 4 year only, imagine if it was 5 years?
BTW... DD 17 PER x BB 11 PER.

not much of a worry since practically no one plays 36 mins anymore
