Poll: when will GM Hennigan be fired ?

Many of us believe that GM Hennigan will not be a GM for much longer. But whether this is before the trade-deadline, the season's end, or the NBA draft (or some other date), on can make several reasons for "fire now" vs. "fire later."

So this poll. When will GM Hennigan be fired?

After the regular season ends. A new GM will be appointed a month later.

I have it after the trade deadline but before the season's end. I think Martin's will let GM Hennigan fall on his sword to make the "easy" trades before the deadline (eg. Green in a Clippers/Knicks deal). And then dismiss him so that the league can take plenty of notice to the Magic vacancy.

I do agree that a new GM will be appointed after the season's end and well before the draft. Say around mid-May.

Probably a day after the regular season ends. They'll have to turn around and find a replacement quickly to prepare for a deep draft. Last thing I need is Alex Martins making the draft pick this year.

OP did you think Hennigan should be fired before all of your 50 win predictions?

I voted for retained.

Not my wish though.

Retaining him would just be another signal that the organization is clueless.

Retained. I think they give Rob more time.

He won't get fired. I think he gets the Larry Bird Frank Vogel treatment and gets let go at the end of his contract. This means multiple opportunities for panic trades though. Not my wish as well.

It should already have happened. There is nothing he can do to save the season. Orlando would have to win 23 of its remaining 34 games just to reach .500 by season's end. Only four teams in the NBA are winning at the rate that the Magic need to just to sneak into the playoffs, but Hennigan has still been talking about being aggressive in finding ways to improve this team. This season is lost.

The Ibaka situation is critical for the future of this franchise. Hennigan is not the guy that should be handling it unless the organization is committed to giving him another five years to figure out how to build a team.

I am all for GM Hennigan improving this team, even though it clearly will not get Orlando to the playoffs.

If the Magic could flip assets into a star SF (e.g. Butler or George), then the off-season FA market could be used to round out a balanced roster to make another stab at a playoff run before a total reset. I am all for that.

I want Orlando to improve more than I want the team to lose their way to lottery balls.

He will be retained in my opinion. I feel like there has been far too much changes over the past few years and they want to give the Vogel/Hennigan team a few seasons. I still don't know how I feel about it. I'm hoping Rob will have a strong trade deadline and I will be more reassured.

Alex Martins said he will follow standard team procedure when he and the DeVos family assess the job performance of Rob Hennigan as general manager of the Orlando Magic.

“We don’t evaluate any of our individuals in midseason,” Martins said when asked by the Orlando Sentinel about Hennigan’s job security. “Traditionally, we do that in a very comprehensive fashion at the end of each season, and this season is no different.”

Sounds like a pink slip to me. Indeed it sounds like the late-April folks will win this poll (which was the highest "fired" vote, after all).

Hennigan would be our best GM (maybe after Gabriel) without the Harris and Oladipo trades. He was very solid (maybe very lucky) by the Howard, Afflalo and Redick trades, and I think he was also smart by drafting Gordon and trading Saric for Payton. In my opinion the problems have started with drafting Hezonja, and after that he made just very stupid things (Harris trade, Oladipo trade, new contract for Fournier, singing Biyombo for a huge money). So after all he must go after this season, because he ruined a very talented lineup (Vucevic-Gordon-Harris-Oladipo-Payton) for this ****. Hopefully he won't make any non-sense panic trade until the deadline (God please no!), like trading Vucevic for nothing or something like that. I would retain only Gordon, Payton, Vucevic and maybe Hezonja, but it will be a damn difficult thing for the next GM to do something with Fournier and Biyombo. Right now we must concentrate to the draft and make a good choice with our pick. The Magic franchise deserves much more than this agony! Go Magic!

That's what last offseason looked like to me...Vogel, Ibaka, Biz...what happened once the games started? I was so excited about Vogel and still want to consider him Henny's biggest "get", but why is the team so dysfunctional now? Why are EP and Vuc being treated like punks (or are they heartless punks being revealed)? Why are aging journeymen Watson, Green, and Augustin being used as threats to our developing young guys? My point is...When you have some personnel that, on paper, look like a defensive-oriented team-how do they keep losing by 20+ and giving up 110+? I want to believe in Vogel, but if this performance was delivered under Johnny Davis or some other "unproven" coach, wouldn't it all be on the coach?

I'm trying to rationalize to myself about Vogel, but what other conclusion can you draw? The work on the hardwood looks a lot worse to me than the work on building the team. The chemistry, continuity with growth, and heart can't be blamed on Hennigan can it(unless he should have scouted for that better)?

My guess is he will be fired as soon as the season ends. I can't imagine they would seriously entertain keeping him on past that.

It could happen earlier if fans force it (see the JV beheading...its timing was dictated completely by the fans in the arena).
