Could the Magic amnesty Biyombo
I know the ability to amnesty players is usually more for players that are injured, and/or their career has severely declined (ala Rashard Lewis / Gilbert Arenas), but could/would the Magic consider amnestying Biyombo in order to free up more salary cap to possibly go after somebody else this summer?
On a side note... maybe I've missed it, but can't Biyombo play the 4 next to Vuc? Seems to me he played PF quite a bit back in his Bobcats days, but mostly C in Toronto (assume more due to small-ball), and they possibly had a bigger need for a defensive C. Seems like the Magic's vision at this point, obviously is to trade Ibaka so you don't come-up empty, and maybe trade Vuc for a solid wing. Since Biyombo is virtually untradeable, to me their only option is to either start him at C (like Toronto did) with scorers all around, see if he can play PF next to Vuc (a disaster on offense likely), or amnesty him, take that hit, and move on.

No, each time was provided 1 amnesty which we already used.

Each year correct? Who did we amnesty last? Couldn't we amnesty him after this season is finished?

No. The provision was for the entirety of that negotiated CBA. Our amnesty was burned on Arenas. I don't even know if it is still an active provision as I haven't heard of anyone using it in a while. I do recall that there was talk of doing away with it in the new CBA.

Oh wow, I entirely misunderstood that provision when it was introduced. I thought it was built in for each team to be able to amnesty one player per season, while his contract would still be owed, it would no longer count against the team's salary-cap.

No it was only for last CBA and even though a new one is coming it won't be provided for teams for this new one. If we did have one I'm surprised we haven't used it yet on any of Green, Watson.

Why would we have used it on Green if we had one, when he is only on a 1 yr contract.

Even if we could, teams would trade for him, maybe we would get almost nothing, but he is tradeable.

I rather trade Biyombo rather than use the amnesty on him.

I think Management is fine with Biyambo. In a couple years his contract will be cap-friendly, and these years the Magic needed to smoke some cash. All is fine.

A good choice by us. But in general, i hate the idea that teams are given a bailout for bad contracts. Bad decisions should have consequences. If a front office like the Knicks make a **** decision, the deserve to suck because of it, not be bailed out.

Not a catastrophic contract by no means, but a bad contract nonetheless. One which we most likely have to eat.

Re: Could the Magic amnesty Biyombo
yeah each team was granted just one just amnesty provision to use when they deemed it worthy. Most were used that year but I believe a handful didn't but I believe all have been used up already and yeah we already used it on Arenas and I haven't heard either of anyone using one for awhile either. But yeah we are still rebuilding so if another amnesty provision could be negotiated(I don't know if it has a chance to) yeah I would consider amnestying Biymbo(not that I don't he is some value) but at that price yeah he would be my first choice too. But I am not expecting anything in the coming negotiations.
