Pick #25: confirmed

Orlando could have been as good as #24 or as bad as #26. So splitting the middle seems OK.
The NBA held five separate tiebreakers, and one of the tiebreak-lotteries directly involved the Orlando Magic. Four franchises—the Toronto Raptors, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Utah Jazz, and the Cleveland Cavaliers—all finished the regular season with identical 51-31 records. The NBA needed to resolve who would be selecting 23rd-26th in the first round of this year’s draft. All four teams received three balls placed in the lottery machine, and the team whose ball at random was selected would be awarded the 23rd pick, and so on.
Of course, the Magic received a 2017 1st round pick from the Raptors last February in the Serge Ibaka deal. However, Toronto also owns the Clippers’ pick in ‘17, and part of the Ibaka deal stipulated that the Magic would receive the less favorable of the two picks. Therefore, the Magic were ineligible to receive the 23rd pick; basically the best-case scenario would have been to receive the 24th, worst case the 26th. Orlando’s pick (via Toronto) fell in the middle. Toronto (via L.A.) will select 23rd, the Jazz 24th, the Magic 25th, and Portland 26th (via Cleveland).

Jerryl Sasser was drafted 22nd, so I don't have much hope for this pick.

I actually agree tho I didnt want to sound as pessimistic as always so decided to say something silly/positive but I actually agree this pick is garbage and only eats away cap space as we gotta sign whoever we draft there assuming we keep the pick.
This might be a gr8 pick for another team but with our record of drafting at 11th+ ... no comment.

These high draft picks are burdens for many teams. Talent level gap is minimal between here and 2nd round but it is a guaranteed salary. Wouldn't have my hopes up. Because of our high payroll though, I'd expect this pick to be made with the intent to keep since we need to save money somewhere.

2012: Tony Wroten
2013: Reggie Bullock
2014: Clint Capela
2015: Jarell Martin
2016: Brice Johnson

Not sure this pick is garbage at all for us. We desperately need to strengthen our bench. A good scout team should be able to find a guy who can do just that in a draft that is rather deep. What if Kennard was there at 25? Additionally Giles is projected to be there as well. Those are 2 guys who could be steals in the mid 20s for us if they work out.

We could use a guard or wing off the bench on a rookie contract. Only reason to trade it would be to move up.

If Kennard is there, I take him. He or Rabb would be good in this spot.
Tatum/Isaac
Kennard
Mason III
Tony Bradley
Tatum/Issac
Rabb
Mason III
Thornwell
That's how I'd do it if either is there.

Come on now. Brooks was the highlight of the package offered by the Nets for Dwight a few years back

I see your Sasser at 22 and raise you:
- Gerald Wallace at 25
- Sam Dalembert at 26
- Jamaal Tinsley at 27
- Tony Parker at 28
- Gilbert Arenas at 31
- Mehmet Okur at 38
and other serviceable players all from the same draft.
Plus hopefully Lloyd reaches into his bag of late first round pick tricks from his time with the Bulls (Butler / Gibson) and pulls one out of the bag.

My hope is The Magic will try to trade up from #25 using #35 and if the Magic unfortunately get it, #33.
This Draft needs to be like 2004 when The Magic got Dwight Howard and traded for a second first and got Jameer Nelson.
If Matt Lloyd is still here..., he did get Jimmy Butler at #30.
The Magic need the star early and to get that player who falls through the cracks.
First, they need some lotto luck.
