Post#1 » by NEM » Sat Apr 29, 2017 5:02 am

The Orlando Magic plan to offer their vacant president of basketball operations position to Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin, sources have told ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

I'm just glad that the organization realizes they need to move away from Martin being over basketball ops , regardless who is hired , I'm happy it seems like they understand that a structure change is needed

In other rumors:

Rumor #1: Orlando wants Kevin McHale.
Rumor #2: Orlando wants Larry Bird.

Until one of these guys is real-news reported to be interview, I will not believe any of this.

I don't have a problem with him being President... I feel like he knows how to build/craft a team, and he's a guy that the players trust... Obviously the only question is can he build a roster from scratch?

This still reeks of negotiating tactics by Griffin's agent. Even more so as the guy breaking the news is very close to the Cavs.

This is what's going to happen, we will wait until after the finals, hire the guy the week of thr draft. Really dumb to do this with very little time to have a strategy.

I really hope you're right for the sake of this team/franchise. However, this reeks of Orlando's incompetence. Maybe they've scarred me, idk.

This reeks of old man Devos calling Smithers (Martins) into his office and saying "Hire that dashing young GM away from the champs"

I really can't evaluate Griffin other than Lebron wanting to come home...was he the one who shocked the world and took Bennett #1?

I like McHale as an honest intelligent basketball guy, but (like Bird) he may not have enough coddling BS in him for today's players and agents.

Could be, but maybe this is exactly what everyone has been clamoring for. Griffin over basketball ops, Martins concentrates on business, Matt Lloyd stays on as GM under Griffin...?

Nope, that wasn't Griffin

What's McHale's resume as a GM really? Hasn't built any contender, so you may as well say the same for Pat Garrett or Brent Barry. Bird is a non-starter since we hired Vogel. And frankly I'd rather keep Vogel, than hire Bird.

You could always blame Hennigan if we select someone you don't approve of.

No one questions that David Griffin is on the Orlando Magic’s radar, but an ESPN report saying the Magic “intend to offer” their top basketball operations job to Griffin at the end of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ season appears to be premature.

Magic officials have not spoken with Griffin, the Cavaliers’ general manager, because the Cavaliers have not completed their postseason yet. It would border on professional negligence if Magic CEO Alex Martins and the team’s owners, the DeVos family, already have made up their minds to offer Griffin their top basketball operations position without speaking with him first and, at the minimum, understanding how he would try to improve the Magic’s roster.

All of these "candidates" have either negative or no track record.

Idk why all of you are complaining.

Sure David Griffin has the benefit of having LeBron James. But at least we're looking for someone proven this time around. He's not as successful as we might want, but having built a championship team helps.

If we're looking at David Griffin iN this light, might as well cross off the late Jerry Krause as a good GM because he had the GOAT on his team.

This business is result driven, and I'll be glad to have David Griffin on board than other options like Schlenk or McHale because David Griffin knows what its like to be in a winning environment.

I know I'm from out of "town" so to speak, but this Griffin talk will be another mistake. Take a look at that Cavs roster and tell me if that looks like a good one. Lebron has been complaining about it all season. And this is a team with the biggest luxury tax in the NBA. Despite having Leborn Love and Irving he hasn't been able to bring in free agents at reasonable cost nor sign role players to good contracts. Compare Cavs roster to the roster Golden State has built in the same off-seasons. Or the one San Antonio has built. Cavs will win because they got Lebron. But not because of the supporting cast Griffin provided.

Puke. We are f***ed with Devos & Martins. I'd rather go with McHale
