Youth or playoffs?

Post#1 » by Airgordon00 » Fri Jun 23, 2017 10:59 pm

I am curious to see what you guys want this upcoming season.

Youth:
Go all out with letting the young guys grow and get opportunities to play together, plus have bigger roles. By doing this you find out who can step up and who to get rid of. With a Lineup: Payton, Mario, Isaac, gordon and bizmack/vooch would probably not win alot of games but would be fun to watch.

Playoffs:
Push for the playoffs and let the young guys continue to grow slowly with diminished roles. Go with a lineup of: payton, fournier, ross, gordon and vooch. It might get us into the 8th seed with player development and another year under Vogel.

Which direction do us the fans want the organization to go?

Doesn't really matter what we want. We are heading for the lotto (youth).

Playoff. This is the last season(or so) for Magic to hold on to our Rookie Contracts.

We can not afford to tank again. Otherwise, you could see Tobias 2.0 on Gordon, Elfrid.

We have done enough to attract youth. Look at Houston model, they never tank even before Harden Era. Darl Morey was playing card games in shuffle players. With enough assets they had got, BOOM, James Harden traded to Rockets.

Also the most beautiful thing about Boston post Big 3 era is that they built the team on coaching and young assets.

My point: We have to be done with Tanking

Commit to the youth. We'll probably lose, but we don't need to tank. If they have a Milwaukee kind of surprise run and we finish in the late lottery, so be it. But only if it's the youth getting us there. If we're winning off the back of Vuc/Fournier, then we're off to a bad start.

Our whole team is young. We also have to see how our "veterans" like Ross, Fournier and Vooch can or cannot fit in. So, yes, play our young guys and learn how to play together and develop winning basketball. Whether that leads to winning games is very debatable, but we need to develop healthy habits. Play Mario, Isaac significant minutes, but don't just throw them in the starting lineup if Fournier and Ross are still playing better.

yeah that was what I was going to say. Yeah we are not a playoff team. Isaac is a very good prospect who has a chance to be the best player out of this class but that isn't likely coming in his rookie year. So we are still pretty much the same team as far as it goes to expected win totals next year. We are likely in the lottery. Free agency isn't an option for us to get much of anything and in trades you have to give up something to get something and while I think we will be active on that front I am not expecting anything to come our way that makes us into a playoff team.

Transcript of John Hammond's GM job interview:

Martins: Thank you for coming today, John. Feel free to speak your mind regarding our team. Anyway, with our current situation; what will be your plan and strategy in bringing our team out of the dark ages?

Hammond: THIS IS A YEAR FOR US TO SIT AND EVALUATE. (followed by an awkward silence)

Martins: Hmmm.... sounds like a plan! Very well then, your hired!

Hammond: Where do I sign?

Youth. The rebuild is restarting. The first one was a
fail, and Isaac is the beginning of the new rebuild. Pushing for the playoffs would a colossal mistake. I realize how long it's been, but that doesn't make us magically ready.

We should be taking phone calls about everyone not named Isaac.

I feel like we've been here before. So unless several players somehow break out as stars next year, there is no choice but to tank. hard.

Play Isaac/AG together as much as possible and let them cont developing and building chemistry. Those two are the cornerstone moving forward. Trade all and any player that doesn't complement them and get guys that do. Run with that the entire season. This is not a playoff roster now so run youth.

No reason to tank. Just play Isaac a lot, and let him be the #1 option, and give our best effort doing that. We'll lose plenty of games, while getting Isaac much needed experience.

My concern is that Vogel may not be the coach for that job. He's the coach you hire after you're ready for the next step.

I just want to see players improve. I don't care if that involves playoffs or not. Just damn get better.

If the Magic are a bottom five team next year, to me that means no players improved. Because, improvement to me means they learned how to play team ball, improved BBIQ and learned how to win games. Not just being able to make a few individual athletic plays they couldn't do last year. Otherwise, if they become losers again, development has been stunted.

Our best chance to make the playoffs with the roster as currently constructed is to play the youth anyway. Give this team to Elf, AG, and Isaac, and let's see what happens.

I'm pro youth right now, not pro tanking though. I want the young guys to get free reign, the losses will come naturally unless Elf and AG improve and Isaac makes instant impact. Evan and Vuc should be the support for those three that I wanna see take over. We also need to give Mario a bigger and more refined role and see what we have with him.

We need to win. That said, we need to rebuild the starting lineup and bench. Which means some tank moves are required. Ship out Biyambo and Fournier for some rookie contracts or future picks. Run the team through Payton/Gordon/Vucevic, with a healthy dose of Ross, an increased role for Hezonja, and a lot of minutes for Isaac. Find a way to bring in an impact journeyman or two. If Payton and Gordon are going to be studs we'll know it next season.

Doncic or Porter Jr...

Just play the young guys.

We need a franchise changing TWO way player.

Pro-youth movement. Let the team gradually grow into its own. Let the RFAs show their value. Don't overly rely on vets. Whatever seed happens, happens
