Goodbye: Jodie Meeks signs with Wizards (2yr/7mil)

Post#1 » by AddiFB » Sun Jul 2, 2017 8:53 pm

Jodie has agreed to sign with the Wizards on a very good deal (for the Wiz). 2 years for $7mill is a bargain in todays NBA. He would get more if he'd stay healthy for like a full season, for sure. When he was on the floor for us, he was one of the more consistent players and one of our very few shooters that could actually hit a shot (looking at you, Mario).

He would have had my support to return to the team next season, but here's to Jodie - Good luck in DC!

I enjoyed Jodie's time here with the Magic. Very solid player for us and he had a stretch when he was starting for Evan to where we looked like a competent basketball team. He'll be a nice fit with the Wizards off the bench.

Nothing but the best to Jodie Meeks.

I would have liked him to return on a one-year deal. If he is healthy, he will be a big asset to Washington.

This does give The Magic some roster flexibility though and am happy for Jodie Meeks.

solid player? was out to start the first 20 games or so, played 25 and was out again another 25 games. he didnt play defense, scoring was up and down, i wouldnt call him solid.

At this point in his career I'm not surprised he'd rather play on an obvious playoff team.

Magic trash for the past 5 seasons.

Wizards front office: "Let's sign all their free agents."
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

I wish Meeks the best. He will be beneficial to a team like the Wizards. As for this team, we need to be smart in investing money in the right players who will help better this young team's atmosphere in order to build up the future.

He will have success in WAS. Wish we could of kept him but the strategy of new management for next year is obvious. We're going to bring back the core, don't give away any big contracts, and see what these young guys can do next season. I don't see us go full tank and get a top 5 pick. I really don't think we will be as bad as the first half of last year. Things like bringing back the same coach(for the first time in AG/EP career), returning core, and added talent of Isaac I think we will win more then 29 games next year.

Opens things up to see what we have with Mario. Good luck, Jodie.

He might have been our best bench player last year when he played. Good lord that's sad.

Not really. It was pretty widely known that our bench was awful. Meeks is a decent bench player on a good team that looked better on a weak bench.

Actually he might have been our best bench player since we traded Dwight

Not really what? It's really sad that our bench was bad enough that Meeks was our best player. I'm not knocking Jodi, but he is 8th-9th man status, not 6th man.

He had some good moments, but 2 things I won't mis...

1. Vogel running damn near every play for him whenever he was on the court.

2. His little initiate contact and throw up a wild shot looking for a foul call that only worked like 20% of the time.

If the Magic is not retaining their best FA, then I cannot see any real effort for the Magic on the FA market.

The current roster is:
Payton/Augustin/Watson
Fournier/Ross/Garino/Georges-Hunt
Isaac/Iwundu
Gordon/Hezonja
Vučević/Biyombo/Zimmerman

(Watson seems sure to be waived and only one of Garino/Georges-Hunt could make the roster).

So there looks to be 12 men on the roster, so two more players must be signed. Looking at the above, a combo forward and a 3rd string PG are required.

But back to Meeks: him not resigning helps Fournier's case to stay on the roster.

Seriously

I remember Gortat saying they have terrible bench, and their bench is ultimately why they lost to Boston, and I'm like they're all ex-Magic players from bad teams!!

But I wish Jodie the best, I think he's the only veteran in the Henny era that I didn't want to strangle to death. And Wizards one of my favorite teams to watch.

Great bargain.

Caused us some pingpong balls but really appreciate his big games for us. Made it fun to watch.

Interesting signing for the Wiz though. Meeks and Beal are both made of glass.

Will miss the savior. He didn't have tunnel vision and was a great floor spacer. 1 of the best role players of the Hennigan era.
