Another "long reach" guy, which we know the Magic brass favors. But what is additionally interesting here is that he was a major minutes guy in Europe on a powerhouse team. Youth players do not usually get ANY minutes. This all says a great deal to me!

Yes. Teams need to carry three Centers. And Birch can additionally play practice squad minutes at PF.

I mean, I guess. At least Zim had upside to be more than that. Now we have a guy who's a little better and likely never good enough to be a rotation player. If that is what passes for progress, we are in for a long rebuild.

Zimm is a skinny stiff with one arm... he has no upside.

Had 25 blocks in the 2015/16 summer league. If I do the math right that means he's a future superstar.

Yes. Absolutely we did. Only two players on our roster can play center and really two of our other forwards are combo forwards. We needed another big and Birch looks like he is a decent gamble. At the very least he gives us someone who can be physical in the defensive paint.

Maybe not, but still better than zimzam. Birch probably won't ever play a meaningful minute this season... just a body just like zimm.
