If only we had given him the chance, Hennigan could have executed his master plan of acquiring 58 players.

This is no surprise.
I think The Magic wanted to bring in their own guys for camp and let Georges-Hunt and Garino find other opportunities as baring a trade the 15 man roster seems set.
However, this does not mean a deal is coming as those guys were not guaranteed and could be cut. In fact, if there was a deal, they could have been used as filler.

All of them being tweeners who are highly athletic but cannot shoot worth anything?

Any player guaranteed for less than $50k can be 2-wayed. So Birch is a candidate with his $25k guarantee.
