Stan Heath and Anthony Parker named Lakeland Magic Coach and GM

Post#1 » by Howard Mass » Tue Aug 8, 2017 5:25 pm

The Orlando Magic have made a pretty good hire for The Lakeland Magic in Stan Heath.

Anthony Parker who is a former Magic player and has been a scout for five seasons is the new GM.

They got a pretty good combination in Lakeland and Iwould not be surprised to see some noon games scheduled so players like Wesley Iwundu can be in Lakeland in the afternoon and back with The Magic in time for the game that night.

Real happy for Anthony Parker. He's one of the few success stories during this mess. Would be curious to see if he can find some young Euro talent that haven't broken out in a respectable league yet.

For Heath this is an interesting path from college ball to professional. One could argue that the G-league is a bit like running an NCAA team. And in the sense of getting-players-ready for their next step, he is an interesting choice.

Anybody please stop with Iwundu on the Lakeland team. Iwundu is on the 15 man roster, he's not a 2 way contract candidate. We have our 15 man roster set. Now we still need to sign 2 guys to our 2 way contracts. i wonder if Stan Heath or Anthony Parker can chime in and guess our 2 way contract guys?

NBA players can play in the G-league. It is just that 2-way players only get 45 total days in the NBA (I think that includes pre-season).

Iwundu will spend a great deal of the coming season in Lakeland; I have little doubt of that.

Iwundu will be on the 15 roster but he will be splitting his time between The Magic and Lakeland.

Teams can send down players from the 15 man roster.

We get 17 players. Our 15 man roster, than the 2 players with the 2 way contracts. Just keep our 15 man roster and sign 2 guys to the 2 way contracts.

The Magic has 14 players on guaranteed contracts:
Payton/Mack/Augustin
Fournier/Ross/Iwundu
Simmons/Isaac/Afflalo
Gordon/Spreights/Hezonja
Vučević/Biyombo

Then there is Birch on a deal that allows him to go up to the bigs or down to a two-way.

So currently the Magic has up to 1 roster slot and 2 two-way slots, with Birch to take one of those three. I expect the Magic to keep the 15th roster slot open (so that a player can be signed when a Magician goes down to injury - and that might be Birch) and have both two-way players inked: Birch and a young PG.
