Im sorry for starting a thread on this. I didn't see the appropriate thread but here goes.

Listen guys. Please read. I know some of y'all of most won't take my words serious but I don't wanna sit here knowing I could help with my words and don't say anything.

I live in the U.S.V.I. We just got hit by this same hurricane on Wednesday and please I'm begging you guys to take this hurricane seriously if it's heading your way. I wouldn't wish this aftermath on even my enemies. My home is perfectly fine but I drove around today and it was depressing seeing so many homes destroyed.

It's going to take months for us to recover. The beginning of the hurricane you're saying to yourself "this isn't that bad" when the middle and end of the hurricane passes I'm looking outside the window begging for my car not to flip. A Toyota Camry which has decent weight so you can imagine how powerful the winds are.

If you don't think your house is safe please seek somewhere safe.

Don't worry... big difference between getting hit with a cat 5 on an island vs a cat 1 or 2 in the middle of FL. Still hoping the projections keep shifting west though...

Google is saying it's strengthened back to a Cat 5 and just passed over Cuba

Coming from the Philippines, I know the destruction well of a Cat 5 hurricane, and it is never fun or good.

I would hope that anyone who has lived in Florida for over 13 years is taking this seriously. I've had trees fall on my roof, I've had a tree fall into my garage and kitchen. I've had to go out in the middle of a hurricane to cut down a branch that was grinding down my roof. I've had a fence completely ripped out of the ground. Thankfully, flooding typically isn't a problem in Central Florida.

Cuba is doing Miami and Orlando a huge favor right now by greatly weakening Irma. She'll get back to a Cat. 4 again as it hits the Keys, but the path continues shifting west (bad news for Naples, Tampa, and the Gulf).

Tornadoes are going to be a big problem, and the sustained winds. Not so much rain. Unlike Charley, where strong winds only lasted about 3-4 hours. We're looking at about a day of gusts, and maybe up to half a day of tropical storm/hurricane winds. That's nothing to shrug at.

I feel bad for folks in the Caribbean (and Jose double tapping a few islands makes that all the worst). I hope the casualties stop rising, and hope that folks can find a way to get back to some sense of normalcy soon (rebuilding efforts are going to be pricy and lengthy). And I wish everyone in the U.S. and Florida good luck. We got lucky last year with Matthew barely doing much to Orlando. Irma is 3 times the size of Andrew, it's literally going to impact the entire state.

This is a big storm.

While it is going West, we are going to be on the right of the storm which means we get the bad winds and lots of downed trees.

Hopefully, all goes well and anyone effected by this thing is safe and well.

I lived in Orlando for over 20 years. Through that time I saw many hurricanes come and go. While a few were indeed terrifying, we saw enough overhyped duds to understand why many long time Floridians choose to bunker down and tough it out rather than evacuate.

Still, this storm feels different. I can honestly say that I am struggling to sleep thinking of the friends and family I have in Orlando choosing to stay home. I'll be thinking of them throughout the next few days and while I know I have a habit of being a sarcastic jerk around here, this is no time for jokes and I will be thinking of all of you who may be impacted as well.

I can only offer prayers of safety for those who will be effected by the hurricane in Florida and the islands as well. Stay safe ppl!.

The problem is the eye of the storm is moving less than 10 mph which is like speed walking or jogging, thats way too slow for a hurricane to get cleared of an area. If the center can start moving a direction at 15 mph to 20 mph that be much better. I tried to enjoy college football today but unless I'm watching a game on the espn channels, any game played on the news channels it's like impossible to watch the game without seeing the hurricane Irma at the top and bottom of the screen. I want to be able to enjoy NFL tomorrow if and when we lose power but it be hard because the games are on fox, cbs and nbc and hurricane irma will be there at the top and bottom of the screen. Apparently our weather is supposed to be fine for the Central Florida area Sunday until evening so we should keep the power for the 1pm and 4pm games. The Sunday Night game on NBC is where we could lose power.

In SW Orlando we're due for rain all day and 50+ mph winds starting at 4pm.... not sure how accurate that is, but I'm expecting my power to go out as it usually does with tropical storm type weather. Still, much better than the 80 mph I was seeing projected yesterday. Keep moving west, Irma!

Tropical tidbits is a cool website because you can see where all the forecast models take the storms. I see on the forecast run they show Jose looping around and coming close to the coast.
