Eager to fulfill the vast potential and promise on the roster and make the necessary strides to get back into contention, the Magic open the season with a quiet confidence and brimming optimism. They have the same coach returning in Frank Vogel – a first for many of Orlando’s key players – and the core of the roster is mostly unchanged except for the additions of a few veterans (Jonathon Simmons, Arron Afflalo and Marreese Speights) and one promising newcomer (Jonathan Isaac). Returners Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton appeared poised for breakout seasons, while franchise fixtures Nikola Vucevic and Fournier remain in place to provide on-court steadiness and locker room leadership.

Seemingly, all the ingredients are in place for the Magic to make significant strides in an Eastern Conference diluted by the migration of several star players (Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler and Paul Millsap) to the West. But, again, it’s all about the Magic now proving it on the court and replacing all of that promise with production.

Elfrid Payton
"I think how we’re playing is fun and everybody is excited about playing that way. It’s playing to our strengths and I think it’s going to be fun to watch.’’

Jonathan Isaac
"I think, definitely, intensity-wise and energy-wise (it will be different than the preseason), but this team is ready to give it. I’m just ready to play and I’m ready to see us play well.’’

Marreese Speights
"Let them keep sleeping this going to be a good year." #puremagic #believeit

Mario Hezonja
“For this year, I want to say the difference should be the chemistry. If we are on time with that, we’ll be fine.

Frank Vogel
"These things are cyclical in pro sports where teams are down for a couple of years in a row. The talent level replenishes and things get turned around. I think it’s our time.’’

Josh Robbins‏
Terrence Ross (hamstring) participated in the Magic's practice today. It looks like he'll play in the opener tomorrow night.

Wes Iwundu – strained right hamstring – QUESTIONABLE

Last season they whooped us and set the tone for the season(Other teams fans outnumbering us, other teams playing with more heart). Hopefully we see a change this season.

I was there. It was a bummer. I'd like see a much different result tomorrow.

I do think we match up a lot better against them this year.

I was there. The 1st half was fine. The 2nd half was disastrous and humiliating. Gave up 3 consecutive dunks to start the 4th, I knew right there that team was doomed. The Miami fans hollering was hard to stomach.

Who's going to be our top fantasy player for the year? Probably Aaron Gordon I think. It be up to Aaron Gordon if we win to start 1 and 0.

Payton will be up there. His game is built for high fantasy points. He's already projected to be top 50 with a stat-line that's not even that much better than last years

Except he can’t shoot, he’s not that good of a ft shooter. Defenders don’t respect him until he’s laying it up against guys 8 inches taller with a foot longer wingspan..

Finally the games will count for real. I am so pumped and nervous for this game tomorrow. Just need to match Miami's hustle and intensity level since Spo will have these guys playing very hard. Have to defend, rebound and make sure we play in that frenetic pace that allows our athletes to wreak havoc on the rim. We got killed by this team last year so a good dose of revenge is in order. Let's get this season going on the right path and make some noise this year!

I really do feel we are going to play with a bit of an edge this year and show a lot more confidence in what we do both offensively and defensively this year.

How does that matter in fantasy? If he can shoot FT% at 70-80% the only thing he isn't really adding is the 3 point shot/blocks in most leagues.. he's rated top 50-60 in that for a reason

SO happy that basketball is back!! Always feels good to get a win against our rivals down south, would love to start the season off right and get a win here. I want to see what were made of this year. Simmons is going to be an important piece for this team. If there's anyone that can break this loser mentality that some of our guys like Vuc and others have had the last couple years its going to be him. He doesn't put up with BS.

I want to see want Frank is made of too. He's got pieces this year to put an elite defensive product out on the court. I also want to see him squeezing the most out of the talent we have. No excuses for him this year. I think AG's got a huge year ahead of him and I think that it starts tomorrow. Go Magic!!!!!!

I was talking about fantasy man lol. Payton is a top 50 fantasy player no matter how much you may dislike him.
