Worst move by Hennigan - POLL

I decided to pour some more salt on the wound and ask you for opinion on our former manager's lame attempt at rebuilding the franchise. I gotta admit that if you list his blunders - especially in later stages of his tenure - it's overwhelming...
Let's happily vote!

wow. oh man. i just came across here and i really struggled to choose one. all of them seem worse than each other. i went with ibaka trade. you could have added paying jeff green 16 million, too.

LOL this is way harder than i thought it will be.
I voted for Harris trade because it was complete fiasco that lead to Jeff Green/DJ Augustin/Biyombo contracts. Not having any level SF probably created idea that Gordon could be future SF, and that landed us Ibaka, another fail where Magic lost Sabonis and Oladipo for rental and later role player/bench player Ross.

Oladipo trade was the worst thing he did for sure, followed by the Hezonja pick, then the Tobias trade, then the Biz signing. I didn't mind trading Harris, as he wasn't in our future plans and I'd rather have Gordon and Isaac out there anyway, but we could've easily gotten picks/starting SF back for him.

It's a tough one.
If Vaughn really did have as much influence on the 'soft' culture we have been dealing with, then I vote on that move. It may have done ALOT of damage to our young guys during an important developmental stage. But mostly, it would be because I think it was 100% a Henny move. He wanted JV, he got JV.
"We really wanted to find a coach who embodies the type of culture and identity that we're trying to build here in Orlando," Magic general manager Rob Hennigan told the Orlando Sentinel.
I had to go with the Ibaka trade, but in reality I don't think it was a true Henny move. I think he was uber pressured by management and *ahem* an impatient fanbase. I *HIGHLY* doubt Hennigan WANTED to make the trade, but it was clearly a panic move on the hot seat. I don't know how much blame we can actually place on him for that move.

Very hard to choose. In the end, not doing 1 of quite a few of these could have would up being a huge game changer for us. .

I can't tell which of these are examples of insight and which are examples of foresight.

thats a good point. If Harris isnt traded, we have him and Gordon and likely do not trade for IBaka, which likely stops the Dipo trade from happening.

you should let us choose at leat 3 of them ... basicly all of the listed ones sucked
still
Dipo trade gotta be the 1st
he chose cheaper option in Evan 17 mil vs 22-23 of Dipos just to throw that "saved" money at usless scrub Biz
so Dipo trade worst followed by Biz signing
its top 2
then propably Mario drafting,Harris trade are ex aequo at 3rd place/same level in my mind

Probably drafting Mario.
Take Booker or Turner and our franchise looks a lot different.
This is one of the few things on the list I think was done without a lot of pressure or influence from upper mgmt.

Who would win, the Magic or a team composed entirely of players that Hennigan traded away for nothing / let walk in free agency?
Magic:
Payton / Augustin
Fournier
Ross / Simmons
Gordon / Isaac
Vucevic / Biyombo
Castaway team:
Oladipo / Ish Smith
Harkless / E'Twuan Moore
Harris
Anderson / Sabonis / Frye
Dedmon / O'Quinn

Lol that leftover team looks more balanced

Nah, the leftovers need more poor shooting at the starting PG spot and worse defense at the center spot.

The funny thing is that the Ibaka trade will dominate the poll but go back to the threads and only a few of us were against it at the time.

I think the Anderson/Ayon trade should be removed from the poll. It's one of the few decisions that actually made sense at the time of the beginning of the rebuild. Sign and trading a guy for a sizeable contract was the right move for Hennigan when he stated he wanted to clear up the cap and acquire young players on smaller contracts.
As much as I despise Hennigan for his gross incompetence (I have a big rant I'm putting together in my head to share soon), he actually made a very few smart decisions when put in the context of the beginning stages of a ground up rebuild.

There's a lot of badness in that poll. I'll rank it.
1. Trading Oladipo and Sabonis for Ibaka
2. Selecting Mario Hezonja at #5
3. Trading Tobias Harris for CAP SPACE
4. Spending CAP SPACE on Bismack Biyombo
5. Trading Saric and a 1st for Elfrid Payton
6. Signing DJ Augustin to make up for Payton's shortcomings
7. White Board Gate
8. Jacque Vaughn
9. Scott Skiles
10. Trading Anderson for Ayon
You look at the sequence of moves, particularly over the last 3 years, and it's not hard to understand why we've regressed, while other teams have made significant strides toward relevance in shorter time. I'm still not even confident that John Hammond and Jeff Weltman have the chops to turn this thing around.

Remember the ones on that "AG at SF" bandwagon?
