Notable:

Boston still has the best defense in the league, but the gap has closed a lot with 2d place OKC (who are still consistently great on defense so far) since the first weeks of the season.

GSW & HOU are having ridiculous seasons so far: GSW has the best offense, 3d best defense & best point differential. HOU is right there with them: 2d best offense, 5th best defense & the 2 best point differential.

The Cavs' defense has picked up during the winning streak, from dead last to 22d.

Toronto is having a quietly excellent season so far: they have a top 10 defense & offense & the 3d best point differential. They need to be talked about more.

The Magic have had an 180 since they started 8-2. Their offense has regressed to the mean & their defense has dropped significantly. Aaron Gordon's ridiculous (60%) 3 pt shooting has cooled off significantly since their hot started, shooting 40.1% from 3 as of December 11th.

Most of the league is hovering around the mean.

The Bulls & the Kings are playing in a league of their own.

While we often look at teams in isolation to see what's working what's not, it's nice to just comparing some of the statistical metrics vs. the league and see where things fall out. This chart paints an interesting picture and probably brings some context to the discussions we have about Magic.

As the article's author notes - Magic has dropped off. The offense is close to the mean (it was better than the mean) whereas D has dropped off considerably. The absence of Isaac and TRoss are contributing factors. Defense has been a bigger issue, and this is anathema to a Vogel team. If and when those 2 do come back that's 40% change and possibly as much improvement in D so that would offer some short-term fix as their absence exposes the weaknesses in the rest of the team. My question is, is the offensive rating a bit flattering to where they are at currently? I have to think they are in the first quadrant more likely somewhere between Kings and Mavs but the average has been brought up by the very good first half.
