Gortat Wants to Retire in Orlando

Post#1 » by Optimus_Steel » Fri Jan 12, 2018 6:17 pm

WASHINGTON — Washington Wizards center Marcin Gortat said today he doesn’t expect his NBA career to continue after his current contract expires following the 2018-19 season, and he added he would love to end his career with the Orlando Magic.

“I would love to join the team for maybe two or three months, or maybe half a season at least,” Gortat told the Orlando Sentinel after the Wizards completed their shootaround Friday at Capital One Arena.

“I’m going to be a old guy, so I don’t know if Orlando would be interested or not. But I would love to join the team back again just to wear the uniform, put the white and blue stripes again on me and be able to say I’m a Magic again and just come back home where I belong. That would definitely be a dream come true to do that for me. Whatever the team wants to do — play me, just be in the rotation or just be a bench player — I would definitely be there for the team.”

At least someone out there still loves us. This would be awesome. Gortat was my favorite player when he was here.

Package him with Oubre and we might be on to something. Would look good next to Gordon/Issac/Doncic for the foreseeable future.

I went to many of his games in Cologne, Germany before I moved to the UK. I love his character.

I hate hearing that as a Wiz fan. I was hoping he'd resign to Vet Min after his contract expires. He has been remarkably consistent and healthy for us. With the way he sets picks and frees shooters and runs the PnR, he could easily play 10-15 MPG well into his late 30's.
Oh well.

Gortat, our 1st (#22) and Smith for Vuc and filler (Iwundu)?
Im not thrilled about the trade, but it gets us a Center that can spread the floor a bit and gets us under Lux tax.

There are players with fond memories of being a Magic. I'd welcome Gortat back at veteran minimum.

Unrelated and I don't know if Polish Hammer would help, but we need to change approach to we shape mentality of this team going forward. We seem to have been growing players into softies and prima donnas for years.

In some ways, Skiles with all his faults maybe was the right medicine, just didn't have the support he needed. Henny, perhaps prudently, sacrificed Harris. Not only to prove his point and beat Skiles in power struggle with Martins, but ultimately to save Elf nad drive Skiles out completely. Vogel, not very unlike to JV before him, seem to coddle players too much.

Biyombo would look good in a Wizards jersey... they've got the star players to make him work, too. Too bad we overpaid him and too bad they overpaid Mahinmi.

Counter offer,

Vuc and Hezonja for Gortat, Oubre and your 1st?

Thanks, but ZERO interest in trading Oubre. Vuc is certainly a better player at this point than Gortat, but that difference over the next 1.5 years isnt worth Oubre, let alone our pick too.

Wiz were rumored last year to want to move one of Otto/Oubre, then they resigned Otto. You'd be getting Hezonja too(yes a FA, but you could sign him). I figured Wiz would take him over Iwundu, who you put in as your fill in.

Otto is our future 4 and Oubre moves in to the starting 3. We arent trading either.
Iwundu was used because my trade got us under the Lux tax, while taking on Hezonja does not.

been preaching for a 2nd year now about trading VUC for Mahinmi and Oubre
but if Gortat wants to come here we would have to modyfy the trade a bit but still my main goal would be geting Oubre somehow...

how about Gortat Smith and Oubre for Vuc+Ross(when healthy)you get 2 win now guys hell Id even add some future 2nd rounders or that okc pick

Again, no interest in trading Oubre. That said, we add even more in salary and for what? Ross was bad last year for you'll and was bad this year before he got injured.

You've said that, and it's just you not interested. The Wiz were very much interested in moving one of them last year.

It's kinda crazy that he wants to come back. I guess he holds Orlando close to his heart because he got his NBA shot here. But he only started 5 games for us in 4 years. He's been gone more than 7 seasons. Phoenix is where he broke out, and Washington has been very steady.

Would welcome him back though for sure.

This is where he became player he is now, not Phoenix or Washington. He had multiple good games in playoffs when Dwight was out.

I met him once at a gun range when we were playing the Raptors in the playoffs. Super awesome guy, got a picture of us holding rifles together, has/had the sickest 5 series BMW i've seen. Glad to hear someone want to be here.
