Should the Magic resign Mario Hezonja?

Post#1 » by ZemGOAT » Mon Feb 12, 2018 7:04 pm

So just a couple months ago, I remember things were going very bad for Mario where he wasn't playing well, playing short minutes, and got his team option declined. He has been sorta picking it up lately so I just wanted to know what you guys think of him now and Should they resign him?

Yes, though I doubt it happens.

is this even a question?
this organisation cant afford to be picky and lose talent like that like they did with Payton,Dipo and now MH.
Not picking up his option was a total dumb and dumber duo move ...I was warning you.
Even a 5 year old kid has more self preservation instinct than this GM duo.I would expect such move from a GM newb like RH but these guys supposed to have so much experience yet they pull off such stunts.5 mil option to pick up was literally nothing...NOTHING low risk high reward if he pans out...like he did yet they had to be "Smarter"than average realgm pesant.effin geniuses.

Given we are only allowed to sign him for so little, if he wants to accept that offer then absolutely. No brainer at the price.

The open market may not be too generous to him this year, thus the Magic may have a chance to keep him if both parties want to make it happen.

I'll be stunned if Mario comes back. We would have to give him substantially more money for him to stay. While it was an understandable decision at the time for them not to pick up his option, it was a huge mistake. If he was restricted, I think there's a decent chance we would match an offer. But he can go anywhere. Maybe he and Vogel have come to a better understanding of each other, but would you want to come back and play for an organization that hindered your development?

I thought we are capped at only offering what his option year salary would have been

we can't give him that but that may be offered by someone else

He will probably get a short deal somewhere else to prove himself. I don't see anything that we have done to make us so attractive that he would turn down more money elsewhere to stay here. He had some cockiness when he first got here, and if that guy is still in there he probably can't wait to get out of here and prove how dumb the magic are. I would be completely SHOCKED if he is here next year.

My vote is no. Time to separate from each other. I don't see him becoming a good starter on a championship caliber team and as long as he's here people will keep wanting that.

The only thing I can think of now, is if Vogel and the Magic go above and beyond to make Mario feel comfortable and wanted here.

They're also going to have to promise a good contract around the corner, along with continued development and extended minutes. If they can convince him that starting over in a new town with a new coach and new teammates might mean fighting for playing time, maybe we can keep him. But, I don't even know what Mario's playing time would look like here next season, anyways. Looks like another wasted lottery pick.

And yeah, maybe the market for Mario will suck. Who knows. But I just a have a feeling there's going to be one team out there that says "Hey, we'll give you $6 million" or whatever type of number necessary to convince him to leave. I hope not.

I don't see why he'd stay... we can't offer much and we can't promise him a major role with AG and Isaac here. He'd have to have little to no interest from other teams...

He is still being played out of position. Dont see him as mazochistical person liking to be hindered in development.
It could be next level if he ends up playing goose in top vic movie next october.

You know what, I give up. Let's sign him to 5/50, CBA be damned.

Is he though?

His handle isn't good enough to play the wing role really.

To me he still has big flaws but he's working things out and finding ways to contribute now, i still don't see him as a legit NBA starter yet but he young.

We should try and resign him, who knows might happen. This offseason is going to be very tight for money which is why we saw lou sign so cheaply the other day.

I really didn't find any clarification on giving him the max we can give him next year, plus an extension. Meaning like 4.5m next year and like 40m for 3 years after. I don't see why we can't do this. The NBA just doesn't want us to circumvent the cap next season.
