Who will be our next starting point guard?

Post#1 » by Furinkazan » Mon Feb 26, 2018 8:37 pm

Who do you think will be our new point guard?
Lets say we miss on Young. Are we taking another bad 3point shooting pg in Sexton?
Fa PG market is rather thin ...a trade?Who do you have as a realistic fa or trade target beside obvious drafting of Young? Is there a backup plan if we miss on Young?

When the market craps out...a healthy but pissed off Isiah Thomas falls in our laps.

I like Sexton. Nothing I've read or seen shows me he CAN'T improve his 3 ball in the NBA. He attacks the basket, has a nice mid range pull up, and a nice 3 stroke. He just needs to be smarter with his shot selection. I don't watch a lot of his games though, so maybe I'm being fooled? From what I see, Sexton can be a scorer, or a distributor, and has the tools and frame to be a solid defender. Not sure why people don't really like him, but I wouldn't take him in the top 5 obviously. If the Magic fell to 7-10 range, why not?

I feel like this could happen but we'd have to clear some serious cap.

Probably someone that can shoot. We'll then complain that they never hit the open man, don't know how to run an offense and can't defend. Unless it's a Lillard calibre player... then the strengths will more or less override the weaknesses. Pretty hard to get a Lillard calibre player though.

Well, I guess I'm out of tune with Sexton and will correct myself. Looks like he's slipping to mid lottery, or later? Man, I had high hopes for the kid, but looks like his stats aren't that great. If we could get a mid-late 1st (draft day trade), then I wouldn't mind going after him then.

Ahhhhh the good ole days of "pass first pg" debates.

Maybe we should sign Carlos Arroyo again?

The can't defend thing is not going away anytime soon. They will be willing to give a pass though clearly if we got people in here actually open to IT as the guy lol.

I think we'll get out of the draft with Young, so I'll go with him

I hope we didn't go to sign Isaiah Thomas with a big contract.

Augustin maybe ?
Or a trade of Fournier for a PG or a late 1st round pick (between #20 and #30). Someone like Shake Milton (SMU) or D'Anthony Melton (USC).
With the Hennigan's Legacy, we need 2 or 3 years more. So, we have time to developp our young players and we need to try very hard not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Draft Doncic and sign Marcus Smart.

Or if we get a big, live with DJ for a bit and scout he trade market with Vuc + Ross / pick.

Or draft Young.

If he falls far enough and to the right team I would call trading Vuc + 2nd rounder for Sexton after drafting Ayton or Bagley an A+ draft.

If we dont go PG in the draft Id take a flyer on Yogi Ferrell. I actually really like his game.

If we miss on Trae Young, then I expect us to sign or trade for a veteran PG. No way this team goes for another rookie PG.

The PG and prob C are the two positions I see changing for sure next season.

I'll be shocked if we don't make a run at Isiah Thomas considering how badly we need scoring

I would be pretty happy with a lineup next year of

Ayton
Ag
Isaac
Fournier
Isiah

And then a bench of (hopefully) hezonja, vuc, Simmons, Augustin, Ross

Don't care what anyone says, that's a playoff team next year
