Replacement thread for Head Coach: updated poll

Orlando could be making a coaching change, with former NBA player Jerry Stackhouse seen as the Magic’s No. 1 choice to replace Frank Vogel. After a 20-year career in which he was twice an All-Star, Stackhouse has coached Toronto’s G-League team and has close ties to Jeff Weltman, now running the Magic as president of basketball operations after being with the Raptors and seeing Stackhouse up close when he was an assistant coach.
LINKAnd the editorial on this:
On a rebuilding team, particularly one that entered the season with playoff aspirations and currently owns the worst record in the league, no job is safe.
Naturally, the first to go is often the head coach. So it’s no surprise that Frank Vogel could be on the hot seat. Perhaps more surprising was a report of who his replacement could be.
Mitch Lawrence of the Sporting News reported on Wednesday that the Magic’s first choice to replace Vogel would be Jerry Stackhouse, a former Toronto Raptors assistant coach who is currently the head coach of the organization’s G-League affiliate.

Bobby Knight. We definitely need a chair thrower type coach.

Should be an other option but Stack is doing a really good job in the G-League and players around the league respect him immensely. A coaching change is definitely needed among other things for sure.

We need to get a proper coach before Vogel ruins Isaac and this year's draft pick. Worst record in this league with this roster while desperately trying to win whereas half the league is actively tanking? That's just historically bad to put it nicely.

I say bring in Stack after this season. Let Vogel close this thing out. He is the best option right now if we want to keep losing. I firmly believe that the FO sees Vogel as a tank commander.
I think Stackhouse can win games for us, so I don't think you want to bring him into a losing season where half the rotation guys are going to be gone anyway.
One thing about the Raptors I always like is their system was very modern and they made their players better. They have been a perennial force now for years and really don't have the firepower of the Cavs or Celtics. They seem like a team that gets one more player or grows one more into a star and then they can get into the Finals. Just to see the Magic players in a system like that would immediately make this process much more enjoyable to watch.

So I guess no Chad Forcier? Hopefully he gets to stay for player development in some capacity.

Anyone would be better at this moment. Vogel quickly worn his welcome here. Time to go, Frank.

The day Vogel is fired it will be the best day of his life. He was been walking around depressed for 2 years now and will still get paid his contact. Win-win.
With that said, does anyone know anything about Stackhouse's coaching ability? I had no idea he was in the field.

This is sorta early. I was expecting these rumors to come out at seasons end. Still don't see Frank to be here beyond this season. I really have no idea how Jerry would be as a HC but that's a change you have to make. As long as Frank take us to the promise land I'm good

.

I may be way out in left field by myself here, but I really don't want to be on our 5th coach since SVG. At least not yet. Didn't someone mention Frank has 2 years left on his deal? I'm willing to ride that out. A resigned AG, Isaac, 2018 pick and 2019 pick, add in some quality free agents, ship out Vuc and Fournier, Biz and DJ contracts off the books in 2 years.
We definitely won't be in the playoffs next season. With some roster changes, AG, Isaac '18 & '19 picks, I'd like to see if we make the playoffs in year 4 under Vogel. This roster has just been so terrible in his 2 years here and yes I know he hasn't show much as a coach in Orlando, but I really don't want to go thru coaches like the Cleveland Browns.
If we don't make the playoffs or even come close to them in year 4 with Vogel, then it's time to move on to Forcier or Stack if he is available.

He already ruined Hezonja for us. You really want to risk him doing the same to Isaac and our 2018 1st rd pick?

We have a coach at present and I wouldn't dump him until we have a compelling replacement. The prospect of Stackhouse as our next HC doesn't really excite me. I'm not really one to defend Vogel, but landing the proper replacement is exponentially more important than getting rid of Vogel, which we can do any time we want. I would certainly be active in identifying options, but you only get to hire a coach once every few years. If you are a GM that is actually hiring them that often, then your own job is probably in jeopardy.
I'm not a big fan of hiring former players that don't have an abundance of experience. Familiarity and comfort wouldn't factor into my hiring decision at all.
Player and coach are vastly different professions. One doesn't provide the foundation for the career in the other. Stackhouse's resume is exceptionally short.

Actually Skiles also had a hand in it. Also it wasn't Vogel who didn't pick up Mario's option for next season. But to answer your question, I stand by my post.

Dang. I was looking forward to seeing what Vogel could do when given the green light to win on a CONSISTENT basis.

former players dont always do well, but they can succeed also. Bird, Mark Jackson (for a short time), Ainge, McHale, Phil Jackson, Doc Rivers (mixed results, no to GM), Jerry Sloan, Riley, Larry Brown.

I don't disagree. I'm not disputing that they can't, but let them cut their teeth and demonstrate their merit in a competitive environment.

I bet if Vogel does get fired, he'll feel like a massive weight has been lifted off him, will dance all the way home and use the payoff to buy lots of alcohol!
