Frank Vogel has some comments about it.

Many on this Forum hated how they dealt their second first-rounder.

Perhaps, they thought he would drop to their second-round pick and actually wanted him instead of Wes Iwundu.

I was displeased that we traded that pick, but I wouldn't have used it on Kuzma. I just wasn't all that high on him as I didn't see much in the way of tools. He is having a nice season, but my opinion really hasn't changed. He has been pretty solid at the offensive end for a rookie, but his eFG has slipped to league average and his TS% is now below average. He doesn't really bring much else to the court. His 15 ppg as a rookie is going to impress a lot of people, but I just don't see a lot of upside.

You can obviously do a lot worse with a late first-round pick, but I don't feel like we missed out on anything by not selecting Kuzma. I'm perfectly happy with the Iwundu pick.

After what Kumza has done in his rookie year, I wished we took Kuzma.

Also I hate these quotes, I really do:

"Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman said the Magic determined the draft “flattened out” around No. 25. Essentially, Weltman was saying the same quality of player was available when the Magic picked 33rd overall".

"The Magic also didn’t want to bring in too many rookies at one time".

If they liked Kumza, keep your friggin picks and select Kumza and keep him. That's over but learn your lessons going into the future draft's.

Coach Cowens told me, “We don't really need you here” Kobe Bryant said.

I'm sure DJ Augustin has heard something similar at least a half-dozen times.

I doubt Kuzma would have received a lot of minutes his rookie year playing behind Gordon, Fournier and etc.

But but but... fit doesn’t matter when drafting

Kuzma is 22, about the same age as AG, some people on here think that AG will only be a good role player, but at the same age, AG is the much better player. So I know that people are gonna do the "he's gonna be a star" thing that people always do with players that are not our own, but I still think AG is going to end up the much better player. But he's also gonna be a good player though.

For the record, I think we should've kept the pick and drafted somebody like him anyway, would've been nice to add him to the core of AG and Isaac.

Trading out was just nonsensical because we need talent. It doesn't really matter what us or the Magic thought of a specific player like Kuzma. We've been garbage for a long time and have barely anything to show for it. Use your late picks to bring in some prospects with the hope that 1 of them pans out into a real piece. But now we've got roster spots (view it as a roster spot rather than a specific player) that aren't developing at all, they're just dead spots, accomplishing nothing. Bringing in a rookie in 2020 and starting that same process in 2020 doesn't make any sense when we're garbage right now and should be emphasizing future growth. It's not like we planted a seed and will be picking a ripe fruit in 2 years. We just put the seed in our pocket and won't plant it for another 2 years. Nonsensical.

It was a bad move when it happened and it is still a bad move.

They chickened out on having too many rookies even though they really really liked Kuzma... meanwhile Isaac was hurt for 80% of the year and we have an injury riddled year so kuzma would’ve gotten some decent run this year.

(Head bang into door) & another kick in the nuts

Cirtcle of death : refuse to have to many young players because they are too afraid to lose- so they play older ,"proven " players -who still suck ,lose and take a spot from younger players.
For 5 years.

Kyle Kuzma is older than Aaron Gordon.

I agree with the comments that he is having a nice rookie year and you can do worse with a late pick but he is nothing special.

Doesn’t mean he is worth crying over. If Speights, Afflalo (what they are today) or Iwandu is your measure of a great player than we have bigger issues here.

People said same thing about Harris and Oladipo ;)

I don't think he is next big thing, but he is 22 years old rookie who can shoot well, if he can improve playing with ball and defense he might be really good player.

I still (correctly) say the same thing about Harris and Dipo.

Harris is a bum and every team which has had him soon realizes they need to part ways.

Dipo is tougher. I would be happy to have him here. Even on that contract I would like him here so long as we didn’t extend Fournier at the time. But that is a big contract for a guy who isn’t and won’t be a star. I could live with it but I’m not upset over losing him.

People here need to set their standards higher and be more skeptical of starpower. People are so quick to interpret empty scoring numbers as future stardom. But it’s not hard to WATCH THE GAME and see that “it-factor” from one guy and not the next.
