Anfernee Simons

Post#1 » by CoachAth » Tue Mar 27, 2018 5:12 pm

What are your thoughts on the Magic acquiring a mid first rounder and taking a chance on Simons? He’s a local kid that has a lot of potential. Elite shooter and athleticism. Needs to add some weight/muscle but could be a steal. He was projected a top 5-10 puck for 2019 but decided to come out for this years draft. Plus wouldn’t hurt to have another Anfernee on the Magic!

I'd like to see the magic come back if the 1st for something like this.
Phx has 2 mid rounders, where they may not want the guaranteed salary.

He's currently projected to go in the very late 20s. Could rise with good combine, team workouts, etc.

Are you Anfernee Simons dad? :D

I would be happy to have him here. He's my 2nd favorite PG prospect after Trae Young.

Right now ESPN and NBADraft.net have him going in the late teens/early 20s. That’s with limited film and prior to workouts. We’ll see how he test w measurables and how he compares to (Young, Duval, Sexton, etc) in team workouts. Projection will change with workouts vs those guys as he is a better shooter than some and more athletic than others. Will be interesting to see but think the Magic would be wise to bring him in for a workout.

Lol nah...I do have a connection to him though. I would love to see him get the opportunity to play for his hometown team. I know he would love that chance as well.

I’m an Orlando native and lifelong Magic fan. Former season ticket holder as well. I’ve lurked on this board for years but enjoy reading rather than posting. Just decided to post since I hadn’t see any discussion on him since he declared.

That's cool! Where do you project his draft range ending up?

How do you think the Magic can end up with him?

His draft range has been pretty consistent with the Mocks between 16-24. I honestly think he could rise a bit after his measurables come out in terms of length and athleticism. He’s long and very athletic. He also has a rare combo of being a great shooter and great athleticism...usually it’s one or the other but he has both. He will need some time to adjust to the physicality of the league but even the one and done guys will need that too. If he can hold his own in workouts vs the likes of Young, Sexton, and Duval I could see a late lotto team taking a chance on him.

Magic will need to make a trade to get a pick in that range to grab him. I think if they decide to go big with first pick then getting him w another 1st would be ideal. A home town kid named Anfernee that has a lot of potential...a marketing dream for the Magic?

Yeah, I think there's a chance that he could sneak into the backend of the lottery, but that range is fair. I think the only trade chips the Magic have to get in that range are Fournier and Vuc... but sometimes teams like the Magic last year, end up giving away their 1st round picks for a future pick. Maybe we can do something like that.

Does he consider himself an NBA PG or SG?

I would say he’s a scoring guard. Not a pass first PG and not just a catch and shoot SG. He can play either position but is best with the ball in his hands. Defensively, after he puts on added muscle/weight, he will be able to guard either position because of his length.

He can really score the ball. He has a tremendous work ethic which is what has gotten him to this point. He has zero off court issues and is a great young man. It may take some time to adjust to the league but whoever ends up with him will be happy about it within the next few years.

Now that our pick is set it will be interesting to see what direction we go. One of Bagley, Jackson, Bamba, Porter will be there at 6. Could we take one of those and then trade for a mid first round to get a guard in the hometown Simons? The Magic will bring him in for a workout that will allow the Magic to see how he compares to Young/Sexton/SGA. If he compares favorably, the Magic could take a big/wing at 6 and then make a move for a pick in the 12-16 range and grab him. Clippers and Suns have their 2nd first in that range and Washington could be looking to unload some salary. Know it would be great to have a kid named Anfernee at guard in Orlando again!

Assuming that we took a player like bamba/JJJ with our first pick.... Simons has been the player i've been toting for the last couple weeks. 6'4" Combo guard with the ability to shoot....facilitate....drive to the basket .... along with defensive potential. I'll take it. He is named after Anfernee Hardaway.... cuz his parents are magic fans... and they are from the central florida area. Sounds like a match made in heaven. lol

I see a lot of Markelle fultz in his game. Well.... the highlights that are available. haha

I think it'd be the steal of the draft long term.

He's a long term play. I think he would be a draft and stash if we were to take him. Not a guy I would expect to make an immediate impact, but I would like to have him here.

Must draft. Gonna be just like Ateukumbo...little tape but sold hype.

Must acquire another pick and draft. May get the loyalty factor if he becomes a star too.

Today NBAdraft has him at #19. One trade could be Vučević and #35 for Miles Plumlee and #19. The Hawks get a major upgrade at C, and dump a horrible contract.

It would be very exciting if we traded up and got this guy. Of course, it would probably also mean that our first pick was passing on Trae Young for a big, so I have mixed feelings there.

Return to Orlando Magic
