I don't think he's a bad coach, but he's not the right coach for our timeline. I imagine he would lean heavily on the vets.

Stotts would be a monumental upgrade for us. Just look at how he went small and allowed lillard and mxcollum run the show. Imagine if Stotts was here when we drafted Vic? Maybe Vic would still be here.

Mike D'Antoni and Alvin Gentry come to mind for current day coaches. Stan Van Gundy will probably be on this list soon.

Ew. Another supposedly defensive-minded Head Coach with boring, predictable offensive schemes.

Hard pass.

Well, to be fair to Stan, Detroit's the only team he hasn't gotten far. His first two were successful, albeit championship trophy short. Still a hell of a coach.

He will have next year to prove that roster he build is worth something( i dont think he has to prove he is elite coach, below average leader)
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Several Magicians are quote that they want to play for an ex-player. Stotts is exactly what was meant. Indeed as a former journey man, he will help in developing the lower-class of the team. The bench matters.

The Blazers is a flawed team. He did his best playing two combo guards who cannot play defense. The Blazers would be a great ABA team. And will never be a competent playoff squad in the modern NBA.

In conclusion: I would be happy with Stotts. The Magic is on an upswing. Their assets will create wins over the coming two-years. A competent coach with previous experience trumps hot-young assistant, for me (read: Stackhouse).

How does that differ from Vogel? Almost same exact situation if Stotts does get fired. Think we're looking for a diff sort of coach.
