The Orlando Magic select JJJ PF/C from Michigan State.
I would then look very hard at Portland's late 1st which is at 24.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yc6a5c3jIt's a simple but somewhat cap killing trade for 18-19 season. Evan Turner + 24 for Nik Vucevic straight up.
Why Orlando does this- the Magic have very little cap space but basically swap out Nik's 12.5 Mil for Turners 17.8 and 24th pick. Turner's extra 5ish mil would kill almost all of the open cap space this year which is at 8.8M. You could say it's a steep price to pay for a 24th pick but this also opens up a Big spot where we could take JJJ or even Bagley depending on where we land. At 24 Magic could wind up with the chance to take a Jalen Brunson PG, Troy Brown SG , Bates-Diop SF, Aaron Holiday PG, my sleeper pick of Khyri Thomas 6'3" with 6'10" wing span Combo Guard whose a career 41% from 3 in his 3 years at Creighton. Thomas also is a feisty defender whose willing to fight through screens and has active hands (56 steals this year over 33 games).
With this trade Magic would be able to get value in terms of a pick for Vuc while taking on some meh salary. This would allow new HC to have a young core of 5th, 24th, AG, Isaac to grow together over time and all being able to be on the floor at the same time which I feel is necessary when rebuilding for long term.
Why Portland does this- Pretty clear they need to get rid of the Turner cap hit so that's solved. Portland would be getting a great 6th man off the bench who can score and rebound the ball for a team that desperately needs help with both of those things. In the 4 game sweep vs the Pels they had 2 players score double figures (11+12). Yeah the defense for Portland is poor but not having a reliable guy to come off the bench is just as important IMO. If Vuc isn't working out they can deal him or let him expire. So in the end they haven't ruined cap space while getting rid of the contract of Turner and getting a solid 6th man for the 24th pick.
