Would love to. I'm sure many of us want to. But it won't happen as long as Alex Martins has a job with the Magic.

If this somehow happened, then Isaac need to bulk the hell up. SVG could mold him into Dwight 2.0, minus the ego and 10 baby mamas.

Would love to have him back. He shouldn’t have been let go because Dwight is a liar.

No way Stan coaches again, let alone in Orlando

Not sure why this can't happen. Brian Hill happened.

lol SVG absolutely killed Detroit's cap space and isn't going to step foot in a building with Alex Martins involved... would be the exact opposite type of hire as well, dude has 0 player development skills and isn't going to sit around for 2-3 years while we continue to be a lotto team.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Different situations. Hill was canned after a player revolt. SVG was canned because of Dwight and Alex. SVG won't come back with Alex still here.

How does any Orlando Magic fan come away believing this?

I just don't believe SVG has any interest in coaching again, let alone the Magic after how we treated him.

He'll be really good on TV though.

who did he develop? Hedo maybe... JJ a bit.. Dwight somewhat.. but not like he took a young guy and helped create a monster. If anything he knew how to use the pieces he had and work an offense around it.

It would all depend on what the aim is for the next coaching staff next season:

Are we going to try and compete and push for the play offs? If so, then hiring a head coach who knows how to get the most out of his players would be a sensible hire. Obviously there were issues between Stan and this team when he left, but if they could be patched up by prioritizing the team's best intentions (i.e. like LeBron and the Cavs owner making up), then perhaps hiring Stan to coach the team without having to control personnel could be a smart move.

Are we going to tank next year to add another high value talent? If this is the route we go because we are trying to replicate our own version of "the process", then hiring Stan doesn't make any sense because I doubt he would ever come on board here to be part of a losing season. It would also make little sense from a financial stand point hiring someone like Stan and the role might be better suited to a first time head coach like we did with Vaughn.

For me, I think we should look elsewhere. I liked Stan when he was here first time around and we could do worse than bring him back, but I'm not sure that he would be the right guy for the job at this point in time. We need someone to help modernize this team's offense and defense while developing our young players.

He maximized Hedo Turkoglu in a way no other coach could. JJ Redick was almost out of the league until SVG taught him how to be a pro, which Redick has gone out of his way to continuously acknowledge. Marcin Gortat called SVG the "godfather of my career." Ryan Anderson earned a $36 million deal in 2012 because Van Gundy saw his potential as a stretch 4 (still his best season came under SVG). Jameer Nelson made an all-star team! Every single one of those players have openly given credit to Van Gundy for their development as players and the success they've had in their careers. We saw those players grow firsthand for 5 years.

What? You just named three guys he helped develop into all-star type players and one Superstar. Are you mad because he couldn't develop Justin Harper? lol

No need to draft Tacko just sign him as an undrafted rookie. I honestly don’t think he is going to get drafted. Possibly in the second round. But I do think he will be in the NBA at some point.
