2018 offseason: What’s your plan?
Who do you want to be the next coach and why? Who do you want the magic to draft? Who do you want us to go after in FA? Do we resign Gordon or Mario?
I’m curious to see what your plans would be if you were GM.

Re: 2018 offseason: What’s your plan?
First I would hire Becky Hammon. This move would instantly make us a national story. We would be all over the big sports networks for weeks and we would probably get some nationally televised games for a change. I feel like she could command the respect of the players because she played at the highest level of her sport. We have been a pretty progressive organization when it comes to women hires with the likes of Becky Bonner in the front office and Lisa Leslie on the TV broadcast.
Come draft night I would take Trae Young with the sixth pick. He would fit perfectly with our roster and he solidify a need. He would also get us national attention that we have been sorely missing since Dwight left. He is the most sought after 2018 Draft pick when it comes to the shoe company’s so you know darn well he will be marketed strongly which can only help our organization.
I would then try my best to move back into the first round to get Lonnie Walker. I have a feeling he is going to be a steal. I’d offer teams vooch, Fournier, Ross, Mack, our 2 2nd rd picks and offer to take a bad contract back to get a deal done.
I would try my best to convince Mario to resign with us. I’d promise him the 6th man job and tell him he will be the point forward on the second unit so he can use his skills as a passer.
I’d then resign Gordon. I’d have him go find an offer and bring it back to us then we can negotiate that price down by offering a 5 year deal so both parties come away happy.
I would then try to trade some of the other vets for future assets/young talent. We might have to eat some more bad contracts but for the right assests it will be worth it.
I would then fill out the remaining roster with some solid vets who don’t require a lot of playing time but who can be a solid role model and leader.
I would really enjoy seeing a small ball lineup of Young, Walker, Mario, Gordon and Isaac. We might not win a lot of games but we sure would be a lot more fun to watch than this current team.

I like a lot but not all of this. In particular, I think moves will be made to sell tickets.
My thoughts on your suggestions:
a) I am convinced Hammon is an excellent coach and I agree with all your words and tone. It is her time and thus, why not in Orlando?
b) Young at #6 is a need pick. His confidence is not arrogance. He is a gym rat int he Reddick meaning of that. And thus I believe he will be competent at NBA defense (eventually).
c) I love Walker's game, and I think a package of Ross, one of the seconds and next year's first, with taking back a bad contract, is enough for the Clippers. That bad contract is virtually certain to be Austin Rivers.
d) let's dream Hezonja resigns.
e) Gordon resigns.
f) there is no reason to make future trades in my opinion.
g) yes to the next generation of Speights / Afflalo types as LLE vets that fill out the roster.
The 2018/19 Masgic becomes:
Augustin/Young/Mack
Fournier/Walker/Iwundu
Isaac/Simmons/vet
Gordon/Hezonja/vet
Vučević/Biyombo/Birch
I like this team very much both for next yer and moving forward.
..

I would be happy with a roster like that come next year. We would have some nice trade chips come the deadline too if we are out of the playoff race by then.

Re: 2018 offseason: What’s your plan?
Trade with The Kings for Doncic (Suns will definitely take Ayton. They don’t have a Center). Swap Gordon, Vuc and Fournier FOR Doncic (2nd pick), Hield, Koufus and Randolph.
Kings will get potential Blake 2.0
Vuc a stretch 5
Four to replace out of role Hield.
The Kings:
Fox, Mason
Fournier, Bogdan, Shumpert
Skal, Jackson, Temple
Gordon, Skal
Stein, Vuc
The Magic:
Doncic, Augustin, Mack
Hield, Ross
Simmons, Hezonja
Randolph, Isaac
Bamba (6th pick), Biyombo, Koufus, Birch

Another guy who doesn't understand the simple concept that the Magic can not trade AG during the draft.

Re: 2018 offseason: What’s your plan?
1. Try to resign AG to a 18-20 contract. If not, be prepared to let him walk.
2. Draft MPJ with #6
3. Second round: draft Isaac Bonga and Moe Wagner
4. Trade Vuc for a bag of chips or whatever we can get.
Another season to aim for the lottery but we would have MPJ, Isaac, Bonga to be excited about and watch grow!

OK genius, let's see if this work.
Trade with The Kings for Doncic (Suns will definitely take Ayton. They don’t have a Center). Swap Vuc and Fournier FOR Doncic (2nd pick), Hield, Koufus and Randolph.
Then let the Kings offer Gordon the Max comes July 1st and the Magic will not counter (wink wink deal). The Kings offered Otto Porter the max last year, im sure they will like Gordon more. Possible?

Gordon is a RFA. We can't just trade him. Plus I don't believe we can combine other players with Gordon even in a sign and trade. I could be wrong as I am not all up to date with what the rules currently are on sign and trade paremeters. But you can't trade guys that you don't have under contract. Also the Kings are not going to trade all that for Gordon. Vuc and Fournier are expensive and don't bring much value. The 2nd pick alone can get more then that and they wouldn't also have to give up Hield. Plus I would rather just wait and six and see if Young will be there. Yeah I like Doncic a little better but only a little and I wouldn't want to give up what it would require of us to get that pick.

No as I said I don't think Sacramento would do that even if we could include Gordon. And no way would that work. The NBA would see right through that and punish both teams a lot. Plus Gordon wouldn't be beholden to that and could work out a deal with someone else so Sac wouldn't take that extra risk.

Gordon is Restricted and is likely coming back. Most restricted FAs( well at least the good to decent ones) go back to their team. Also no thanks to Porter at 6. With Gordon and Isaac and with Young and Sexton or Bamba being just as good as Porter I have to say I am not even considering Porter.

Re: 2018 offseason: What’s your plan?
1 - Hire a college coach with a proven record of building a top notch program for the long run, tony bennett and Jay Wright are my choices but dont see wright going anywhere, so Bennett is my choice
2 - Try to trade up for Doncic, but since that wont happen, give me Trae Young. Then in the 2nd, use our 2 2nd rounders on Bonga and Josh Okogie
3 - Bring back gordon no matter what, yes that means id match any offer he gets. I wouldnt offer him max, but if someone else does, so be it, match it. I would love to bring back mario but hes not going to take 5m here when he could easily get 10 somewhere else, probably sacramento.
4 - I would do anything i could to trade vuc and biyombo. I know its impossible to get rid of biyombos deal, but maybe someone is dumb enough to take him. If we can move some guys out and free up enough capspace (not likely), id really try to go after Dante Exum. Once he gets his shot as a starter, i imagine hes going to be a star.
RealGM above is suggesting Dončić could slide to 4 or even 5. This trade-up is becoming more feasible rumor-by-rumo.
